Riot Games has unveiled Miks, a new controller agent in VALORANT, adding another option to the game’s constantly evolving meta. Let’s take a look at the potential impact of Miks on the VALORANT meta, and what this means for esports.
Miks, in his current form, is unlikely to have a major impact on the ongoing VALORANT esports or ranked meta. There are several reasons for this.
Firstly, if we just take a look at the VCT, where Nongshim RedForce recently became VALORANT Masters Santiago champions, the preferred team composition had two duelists. The likes of Neon and Yoru dominated the teams’ selection during the competition.
Furthermore, the top five agents based on pick rate has two controllers, Viper and Omen. Interestingly, both of these controllers have abilities that can stop or stall the push of enemies. This is something Miks lacks in.
Taking a look at Miks’ abilities, his first ability M-Pulse stuns enemies but it can be broken easily.
The only ability in his kit to effectively halt enemies is the smoke, which Omen has two of as well. Viper’s wall, on the other hand, also has a decay effect that makes enemies think before pushing through it, unlike Miks’ smoke.
Therefore, he is unlikely to be a preferred pick for players who play with controller agents.

Another aspect that puts Miks in a bad spot is his ultimate. His ult doesn’t impact the vision of an opponent, thus not impacting their aim. Even while being deafened and slowed, the enemy will have perfect accuracy to hit headshots on Miks and his allies.
In our opinion, Miks will be an agent that will be fun to play during ranked matches with friends. He will be able to support duelists like Neon and Yoru even after the nerf in Patch 12.05.
In the VCT, we don’t think Miks will have a high enough pick rate with the only team that might use him being ones known for experimental compositions, such as Paper Rex. So, keep that in mind when analyzing compositions when betting on VALORANT esports.
