The first Esports Olympics will be held in Saudia Arabia in 2025, and League of Legends fans are excited to know if their favorite MOBA will be included.
The International Olympic Committee unanimously approved the proposal to inaugurate the Olympic Esports Games on July 23, 2024. The IOC has decided to set up the Olympic Esports in Saudia Arabia. The intentions of Saudia Arabia in hosting the OEG are debatable, but its recent hosting of the ongoing Esports World Cup has set a precedent for international competition. The final venue, date, and schedule are yet to be decided and will be announced once finalized, but the IOC has entered into a 12-year partnership with Saudia Arabia.
The IOC hasn’t released a list of which games will be included but League of Legends fans are excited and want to know if Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has a shot at winning a gold meal.
League of Legends will likely not be included in the Olympic Esports Games thanks to the game having guns and violence.
While League of Legends is a top-tier game loved by fans, the IOC has set a standard that LoL will not meet. According to Metro UK, the Olympic Esports Games will include only non-violent games so League of Legends will probably not be on the list. While some may think this requirement is uncalled for as it forbids multiple top games from being included, the IOC has given its reasoning.
The IOC has stated in the past that games like Counter-Strike and Call of Duty will never enter the Olympic Esports as they have visible violence with weapons. That doesn’t necessarily mean players will never see League of Legends in the Olympic Esports Games as this rule may change.
Korea has by far the best chance of winning gold if League of Legends ever enters the Esports Olympics.
The two highest-ranked League of Legends professional teams are T1 and Gen.G. Both of these teams are Korean. With powerhouse players like Faker, Ryu “Keria” Min-seok, and Heo “ShowMaker” Su, the Korean team wouldn’t have any shortage of amazing players to carry it to victory.
