New team-based hero shooter FragPunk has caught the attention of fans wanting to try it out, but will it be free to play or paid at launch?
Alpha testing of FragPunk ended in July 2024, and the game will enter the closed beta stage in the upcoming months. Bad Guitar Studios hasn’t officially announced a release date. However, the game is likely to launch in 2025.
FragPunk has caught the attention of fans and in no small part due to popular streamers playing it. The next beta will release soon, and fans want to check the game out. However, this raised the question of whether FragPunk is free to play, and here are all the details.
FragPunk is confirmed to be free to play, although it will most likely have in-game microtransactions at launch.
While the Bad Guitar Studio shooter is a free to play game that is not to say that players can’t spend any money in the game. Free to play often requires that players use real money to purchase in-game items, and FragPunk’s purchasable items will likely be cosmetics.
In other free games such as Valorant and Fortnite, players pay to buy cosmetic items and other in-game goodies. Furthermore, even the battle passes require payment and FragPunk will probably have the same monetary transactions.
Players that tested FragPunk in the July alpha probably noticed the store and battle pass tabs in the main menu. This confirms that the game contains both things that other free to play games also include and players spend money on. Some of the most profitable games like Genshin Impact and Fortnite cost nothing, but are riddled with microtransactions that players willingly purchase. This formula worked for multiple games, although it’s unknown if it’ll work for FragPunk.
If players want a new shiny weapon or a cool cosmetic, they will likely need to purchase it similar to other games. The game hasn’t been released yet, so it isn’t clear whether the FragPunk exclusive shard card will also be purchasable.
