Since the transition from CS:GO to CS2, Valve have been much more willing to make changes to the professional map pool. Many people believe that another rotation will take place at the beginning of 2026, with Cache being the frontrunner to join the six other competitive maps.
Cache has had a cult following ever since its official release in 2013, and continues to be loved by many players, even though it left the professional map pool in 2019.
Recently, after one of the creators of the map, FMPONE, released the reworked CS2 version of Cache in the Workshop, it was revealed that Valve bought the rights and now owns the map. This could mean that the developer is interested in reworking the map again and adding it to the competitive map pool.
However, many fans are skeptical, as Cache is considered to be a “puggy” map, which means it has a quite simple layout and not much tactical depth. Dust II, Mirage, and Ancient are also considered to be “brawly” maps, so there might not be space for another one in the pool.

Despite not being part of a top CS2 team for some time, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is still on everyone’s minds. The GOAT of CS:GO has spent the last few months playing online tier-two or even tier-three events as part of BC.Game.
While his individual form hasn’t been bad per se, it’s still not the good old s1mple we know back from his NAVI days. Additionally, BC.Game’s addition of Denis “electroNic” Sharipov has failed to make an impact on the team’s results, with their Valve Ranking hovering around the 100th spot.
There have been reports that BC.Game are targeting to bring in three players from SAW, to get up the rankings quicker. Although this seems like a smart decision, it’s difficult to see s1mple being happy with the level of his future teammates.
All these factors pose a question – could s1mple retire during the next season? If the next iteration of BC.Game’s roster doesn’t click, it could be a real possibility that the GOAT hangs up his mouse much earlier than Counter-Strike fans would hope.

Unlikely first CS2 operation arrives in January. Credit: © Polymarket
There’s no denying that this one is a long shot. All things considered, it seems like Counter-Strike operations are a thing of the past, a CS:GO relic to be enjoyed through a nostalgic lens.
It’s apparent that Valve is focusing more on the skins side of the game, with the Armory and new cases being the main priorities for the developer when it comes to casual gameplay enhancements.
The last Counter-Strike operation, Operation Riptide, ended nearly four years ago. To show how long ago that was, back then, Gambit, HEROIC, and Virtus.pro were among the world’s best teams.
All that being said, it would be a massive surprise to see Valve release another operation ever, let alone in January 2026.
