Why League players are fuming over the $250 Arcane Jinx skin

Arcane Jinx skin.

Riot Games has announced yet another wildly expensive skin as it follows up the $500 Hall of Legends Faker skin with a $250 Arcane Jinx skin.

League of Legends fans already got hit with sticker shock earlier in the year when the League of Legends developer announced a $500 Hall of Legends Ahri skin. Now, they’re getting yet another wildly high price tag, this time attached to a $250 Arcane Jinx skin of a brand-new rarity.

Riot Games has announced a brand new way for fans to get rare skins, and it’s not cheap in the slightest.

Why is League adding a $250 Arcane Jinx skin?

The $250 Arcane Jinx skin is meant to ring is a new era for League of Legends, which includes a new tier of skin rarity.

In an official blog post explaining large-scale changes coming to League of Legends’ cosmetics systems, Riot Games announced a new tier of skin only available in loot boxes. This new tier is Exalted, a tier that only has two skins  in Dark Star Jhin and Fractured Arcane Jinx. Exalted skins will be available from a new loot box system called the Sanctum. In essence, you can buy each loot box, called an Ancient Shard, for 400 Riot Points. Each shard has a 0.5 chance of opening the available Exalted skin at that time. However, after 80 shard openings on one Sanctum shop, the mercy rule will kick in and players are guaranteed the skin.

$250 Arcane Jinx skin ability effects

Arcane Fractured Jinx will include multiple models and animations that follow Jinx across her Arcane journey. From variant particles and animations to completely different looks between forms, this promises to be one of the highest production value skins in all of League of Legends upon its release, which it likely should be considering its enormous price tag. The total amount of Riot Points required to guarantee the 80-open rule is approximately 32,000, which equates to roughly $250 USD if purchased in the most cost-efficient bundles. This announcement, followed the next day by a series of new layoffs at Riot Games, has frustrated many League of Legends fans who feel that the game’s premium content is rapidly being priced out of their reach.

The Sanctum will arrive in time for the Arcane Season 2 premiere on November 3, 2024, following the conclusion of the 2024 World Championship Grand Finals in Paris.
