Traveling the world is not enough anymore for streamer Darren “IShowSpeed” Watkins. Now, IShowSpeed is hoping to stream from space.
IShowSpeed has transformed his content a lot since he started making content on YouTube back in 2016. Initially gaining notoriety for his controversial takes and being banned from Twitch for sexist harassment, IShowSpeed has become known for his physical stunts and world travels. For a while, IShowSpeed was satisfied jumping over supercars and trying to break backflip records. But he eventually took his content on the road, livestreaming from Japan, Australia, and Europe in 2024 alone.
IShowSpeed recently announced an upcoming trip to Africa, a massive continent with 54 different countries to explore. But that is not the biggest plan on IShowSpeed’s mind this year.
During an interview with Jon Youshaei, IShowSpeed said he has a dream to collaborate with Elon Musk, the CEO behind SpaceX and Tesla, to stream from space. The quirky billionaire has been a controversial figure ever since he purchased X and started sharing his political motivations, but IShowSpeed is still interested in calling Musk to make his dreams come true.
IShowSpeed told Youshaei that he plans to do a stream in “every country,” starting in 2025. But once that’s over, he wants to do a stream up in space. For that, he feels he needs Musk’s help.
“One day I wanna do a stream in space,” he said. “I have so many ideas that could really go crazy. Elon Musk has that right now. He has, like, a Starlink.”
Starlink is a satellite that provides high-speed internet to remote locations around the world. It’s located in low Earth orbit to better transmit internet signals to ground stations, allowing people to access internet through satellite antennas. It was developed by SpaceX, Musk’s rocket and spacecraft company. It plans to have up to 42,000 satellites in its constellation, creating a ring around the globe.
IShowSpeed isn’t the first to ask Musk to help with a space livestream. Kai Cenat, another top streamer, announced that he was hoping to stream from space back in November. He even tweeted Musk, asking him to help. He said: “Let’s make history.”
Musk has yet to respond to Cenat, who explained that he wanted to say “Yo, chat” from space and that Musk was the only one to make it happen. The CEO has not responded to IShowSpeed’s request either, but now it seems like a space war to see who can become the first streamer in space.
IShowSpeed has grown a crazy amount in 2024, even taking home the Streamer of the Year award earlier this month. It’s a far cry from where he was years ago, but is it enough to catch Musk’s attention and get a space stream going? Only time will tell.
