Fortnite is making changes for progress in the battle pass, and the community can’t wait.
Epic recently announced some massive changes to Fortnite’s battle passes in a blog update that’s getting praise from players. Previously, Fortnite fans had to buy a battle pass, earn battle stars by leveling up, and spend this currency on rewards in the pass. Then, Epic introduced separate battle passes for Lego Fortnite and Fortnite Festival, meaning more game modes to grind, more currency to earn, and more cosmetics to unlock.
It was a lot of work for Fortnite players, who often complained about having to grind multiple game modes to not miss out on cosmetics. This will be changing later this year.
The new Fortnite battle pass changes will switch to an XP-based progression system, making specific game modes no longer relevant.
Epic Games has announced that Fortnite’s passes will start to progress with XP. Not only that, but the battle passes will all progress simultaneously no matter what game mode players are grinding.
“We hope this change encourages you to play where you want, how you want! Soon it’ll be even easier to unlock awesome rewards in Fortnite,” wrote Epic.
With these changes, Epic will be removing battle pass currencies from Fortnite. Festival points will be removed from the game on November 2. Studs and battle stars will also be removed on December 1.
Even though the purchase system is being removed from battle pass progression, Epic is allowing players to claim pattle pass rewards in any order by setting up an auto-claim. This allows gamers to ensure they get the rewards they want before each season ends. The Lego and Music battle passes will no longer have two separate progression tracks and instead will be merged into one. While you’ll still need to purchase premium passes to access those rewards, they will no longer appear on a different list and will be part of the same progression.
The news has been met with overall positivity from Fortnite fans online. Players are calling this a “W” change and are thanking Epic for the update. This isn’t the first time that Epic has attempted to rework the way battle passes work but it may be their most praised change yet.
Rocket League’s Rocket Pass will not change with the Fortnite battle pass changes.
Since some of the items carry over to Fortnite gameplay, fans are wondering if the Rocket Pass will also simultaneously go up with XP along with the other three.
Unfortunately, Epic has not mentioned the Rocket Pass in its blog post about the reworked battle passes at all. This doesn’t mean it’s impossible but Epic likely isn’t including Rocket League battle passes with its Fortnite updates.
There shouldn’t be any issues with players’ current battle stars after the Fortnite XP changes. They will expire at the end of every season in Fortnite. When a new season begins in December, battle stars from the previous season will expire per usual and players will just need to earn XP to grind battle passes rather than gather more stars.
