Zentreya has been one of the most unique vtubers in the industry, and the main reason for that is her usage of TTS instead of a normal voice.
Zentreya is one of the top dogs of VShojo and she’s also one of the founding members of the group. She currently has over 530,000 followers on Twitch and 390,000 subscribers on YouTube. Perhaps one of the most interesting things about her is her competitiveness and use of text-to-speech.
So, why does Zentreya use text-to-speech?
The reason Zentreya uses text-to-speech is to prevent people from doxxing her based on her voice.
Most, if not, all streamers become a vtuber because they want some sort of privacy. Streaming as an anime avatar on the internet will result in less doxxing as the streamer doesn’t need to show their face to their audience. This means that the streamer won’t reveal any part of their body, hence not leaving a trail of themselves on the internet.
But usually, vtuber still keep their real voice as this is one of the ways a vtuber can have a personal connection to their audience. Some vtubers even use their voice as their selling point by doing ASMR videos and audio.
But not Zentreya. Zentreya takes protecting their real identity to the next level by using a text-to-speech program, also called TTS. According to Zentreya, she’s using text-to-speech because she’s deathly afraid of someone doxxing her from her voice. She then added that she isn’t mute in real life and is sorry for not clearing that up.
For those not in the know, a text-to-speech program allows a person to type text into it which is then read by the program using a digital voice. The voice is usually provided by the program. Zentreya not only uses a text-to-speech program, but she actually uses speech-to-text first. This translates what she said into text which is then put into the text-to-speech program she uses.
Despite Zentreya using a TTS to communicate with her audience, she still manages to entertain all of her audience. Zentreya is a natural entertainer and her ability to keep her massive audience engaged is one of the reasons she’s a vtuber powerhouse in VShojo.
