Medical bills can be a major downer for the Christmas season, and vtuber Bao the Whale has given her some of her fans a very special gift.
Bao The Whale is an English-speaking vtuber who is part of United Talent and one of the only vtubers to do a face reveal. The Partnered Twitch streamer started streaming in 2020 and has already reached 571,000 followers on Twitch and 883,000 subscribers on YouTube. That rapid growth is thanks to her kind personality and willingness to interact with her community.
Now, Bao The Whale has shown her generosity in a big way.
During a recent stream, Bao The Whale decided to pay the medical bills of some lucky fans chosen at random. She tweeted after: “Paid a bunch of medical bills for my community members just because I could. Merry Christmas, chat!”
The vtuber community reacted with joy over Bao’s kindness, sending love her way. One fan called her a “lovely fish” while another said she deserved a “wolf man,” maybe even 10. The generosity was definitely aligned with Bao The Whale’s personality. However, the process in which Bao went about donating to her fans did not sit right with one fan.
They wrote: “While this is great and all but damn f—ed up that sometimes the way to escape medical bills is by winning a ‘lottery.’ Though again, that’s super cool!”
Bao The Whale agreed, replying with: “Yeah the whole time I kept thinking about how dystopian it was and how I really wish it wasn’t this way, but honestly giving back and being selfless is infectious so I hope it spreads!”
Other fans were frustrated Bao The Whale even had to pay people’s medical bills to begin with. Many on social media expressed anger with the healthcare system, even explaining their own horror stories with medical bills.
Wrote one fan on Reddit: “Merry Christmas! Your present this year is… lifting the crushing debt of the broken American healthcare system off of you!”
Bao The Whale’s net worth is not currently available, but we do have some insight into her streaming earnings. According to Social Blade, she could make up to $730,000 from her YouTube channel a year depending on ad revenue and views. She also earns money from Twitch subscribers.
Aside from streaming, Bao The Whale has started making music. She released a single in 2020 and 2022. She also released an album in 2023 and four singles this year. Her music videos have millions of views.
