Vtubers are suddenly doing face reveals now, especially the ones who are indie and from VShojo, but why break the illusion?
Shxtou, Bao the Whale, and K9Kuro are just a few examples, but a lot more have joined the fad. Vtubers in general usually keep their faces hidden to protect their privacy. But lately, vtubers are breaking this tradition and are revealing more and more of themselves. They call these “immersion breaks.” But recently, it seems that vtubers are throwing away this tradition and are slowly revealing parts of their body, mainly hands and faces.
So, why are virtual anime men and women suddenly revealing themselves?
There are a few reasons why vtubers are doing face reveals now, but the biggest is to add flexibility to their content.
Vtubers are two-dimensional models and are usually confined in a virtual space. One of the things they can’t do is interact with the real world, which puts things like IRL streaming and vlogging out of the question. There’s an argument to be had with Ironmouse and Connor “CDawgVA” Colquhoun, but not all vtubers have a friend like CDawgVA, which means that they’re mostly going to be stuck in the virtual realm.
Aside from that, it’s just different if they are doing it themselves. Being able to shake the hands of the people you look up to is a huge thing for fans. Vtubers can’t do this by default, being confined in the virtual space and whatnot. As such, some of them do their face reveals to be able to connect more with their fans.
A prime example of this among vtubers is K9Kuro, who performed a face reveal to open up new streaming possibilities in the future. He wanted to be more flexible with his content and since his face reveal, he has done a lot more streams with his face. He has also done vlogs and IRL streams when he visited Japan, even meeting a fan along the way.
