Ironmouse is one of the most popular vtubers on Twitch, but do fans know who she is IRL?
The rise of vtubers in the 2020s has inspired countless content creators to don virtual anime avatars instead of traditional webcam streaming. For many, the blurry line between anime and real life makes the vtuber community one of the most fascinating fandoms in current pop culture. One of the most popular vtubers is Ironmouse, a Twitch streamer who boasts hundreds of thousands of subs on Twitch. Many fans consider Ironmouse a pioneer in the independent English Vtuber scene. She began streaming on Twitch in 2017 and exploded in popularity in 2020. Nowadays, she often collaborates with Connor “CDawgVA” Colquhoun and Ross “RubberRoss” O’Donovan.
But just who is the IRL human behind the massive phenomenon that is Ironmouse?
Ironmouse has kept her IRL name private.
For many content creators, privacy is one of the most appealing aspects of becoming a vtuber. After all, unlike IRL streamers who often use their real names or even show faces on webcam, vtubers can hide behind a fictional persona easily.
Of course, that’s not to say Ironmouse has not revealed IRL details about herself. Ironmouse revealed she was Puerto Rican early in her career and often shares stories about her childhood on stream. She’s also open about her disease, common variable immunodeficiency, an immune disorder that has left her bedridden and vulnerable to health complications.
Ironmouse has never done a face reveal and has no plans to do so anytime soon.
In an interview with Anthony Padilla, Ironmouse said she would never do a face reveal and cited it was as private to her as “men were private about their d—s.” In an impassioned rant, she asks why people want to see her real face when there’s an anime girl for them to stare at right there.
Her disease makes it difficult for any IRL streams to happen, yet the Puerto Rican streamer has found clever ways around the limitation. CDawgVA did an IRL stream from Japan, and he had Ironmouse on video call for the whole duration. During a convention, fellow streamer Buffpup even “hugged” Ironmouse, who was remotely rolling around on a screen attached to a scooter. Even with her physical limitations, Ironmouse remains one of the most popular and creative vtubers on the scene, and she’ll continue to do so from the privacy and comfort of her home.
