Counter-Strike 2 esports is cutthroat, but a team called DRILLAS is adding some much-needed humor to the CS2 major qualifying stages.
The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 qualifiers are in full swing, with many underdogs and mixed teams taking the North African route. Open qualifiers have been shut down in larger esports regions like Europe and North America, leading one mixed team, DRILLAS, to enter the circuit via the Levant and North Africa qualifiers.
Besides the unique name, the team has been making rounds on social media for a whole different reason: Their logo.
DRILLAS is CS2 streamer and content creator OhnePixel’s team, which explains their unorthodox logo.
DRILLAS’ logo is simply an Ohnepixel headshot wearing sunglasses. This isn’t a typical logo you’d see in a CS2 tournament, but nothing about DRILLAS is typical. This quintet was whipped up at the last minute solely for the Shanghai Major 2024 and includes players from around the world. The core is a mix of players from Ukraine and Israel, along with one player from Morocco.
Not having three players from a particular country gives the team the freedom to enter a tournament in any region where open qualifiers are still available.
DRILLAS entered the major through the Levant and North African route, beating Unlucky Much and losing one game against Superfkrs. However, they still managed to qualify for the Middle East RMR Closed qualifier. If they win their August 28 game against JiJieHao, they’ll gain entry into Asia qualifiers and get one step closer to the main Shanghai Major games.
Here’s team DRILLAS lineup:
DRILLAS’ journey in the CS2 major has so far been surprisingly strong considering it’s a new lineup that likely didn’t have much time to practice ahead of its Major qualifier games. If they continue to make strides in the tournament, it’s possible that Ohnepixel may opt to keep the current roster intact for the foreseeable future.
