Fans of hero shooters are curious whether a PS5 version of FragPunk is coming along the Xbox release or if they’ll have to wait for it.
FragPunk is the latest hero shooter with the standard 5v5 team composition. There are ten heroes confirmed for the game, with more to follow. FragPunk recently held a closed alpha on PC, and the general reception was excellent. The free to play hero shooter added a shard cards system to the usual hero shooter formula. The cards affect how each map plays, adding a layer of randomness to the mix. Players can pick any hero or weapon, but each match has a different card pool.
The powerup card twist makes FragPunk exciting and different from stiff competition like Overwatch 2, Deadlock, and Marvel Rivals.
The developers haven’t announced FragPunk for PS5 yet.
There is no word whether Bad Guitar Studio, the developers behind the FPS game, is working on a PS5 version. PlayStation also doesn’t have the official landing page for the game in the store.
Gamers on PlayStation still have Concord, an exclusive PlayStation hero shooter. While Concord is available on Steam, player count has been dangerously low for a recently launched game. Thankfully, with Marvel Rivals on the horizon, hero shooter fans on PlayStation will have something new to play.
There is no official word on why PS5 FragPunk is not coming out with the Xbox and PC versions.
FragPunk was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, leading many to believe Microsoft backed the project. While there is no substantiated documentation of Bad Guitar Studio’s ties with Microsoft, there is at least a marketing relationship.
Bad Guitar Studio is focused on releasing the Xbox and PC closed beta, which starts in October. The beta supports crossplay between PC and Xbox versions, ensuring matchmaking works fast. It remains to be seen how well the FPS controls are implemented on the console. The PS5 version of FragPunk might get a release later down the road, but for now, fans of 5v5 team shooters need to look elsewhere to get their fix.
