News of what happened to Minato Aqua has shocked the global Hololive community as she’s been deemed one of the pillars of the company.
Minato Aqua joined Hololive in 2018, a few years before the 2020 vtuber boom. This means that she’s been with the company for about six years now. In those six years, she has released two albums, done multiple concerts, and held collaborations with different games. All this has led to a very respectable fanbase among vtubers, but the beloved maid has suddenly announced her graduation from the company.
With such storied success under Hololive, it’s quite surprising to see Minato Aqua leave the agency. So what is the reason?
Minato Aqua is leaving Hololive due to the differences in opinion with Hololive’s management.
She isn’t specific with her terms, but further context from other vtubers from the same agency might be able to explain why she’s leaving. Fellow Hololive mainstay Houshou Marine held a chatting stream after Minato Aqua’s graduation announcement where she talked about her experiences with Aqua. During the stream, Houshou Marine mentioned that it might be a workload issue.
Tokoyami Towa, another prominent Hololive member, hosted her own chatting stream which also talked about Aqua’s graduation. In it, she mentioned that since hololive is a company, the things streamers can do can get pretty limited. However, she also said that while it can be limiting, the company also opened up opportunities to do something that they haven’t done before.
hololive advertises itself as an idol group and when the company started to produce more concerts and music, Minato Aqua might have found the workload a little too heavy. This can of course lead to burnout. Minato Aqua has been noted by her peers to be very introverted outside of streams and only really opens up whenever she’s on screen. The workload of being an idol and always being very busy might not fit with what she wants to do in the future, which led to her announcement of her graduation.
