Weirdest CS:GO Smokes That Actually Work

Counter-Strike 2 is a game that’s heavy on tactical combat, but a clever smoke can turn the momentum of any CS round on its head, as these weirdest smokes in the game prove.

Players spend hours in practice servers testing out the most effective, and sometimes the weirdest, CS2 smokes. Counter-Strike has changed a lot over the years, but players using smokes to outsmart their enemies has always been a part of the game. While smoke physics looked very different in the past, CS2 gives players far more freedom to experiment, whether that’s through blocking sight-lines in unconventional ways or creating new angles of approach for your next offensive.

Plenty of smoke lineups could be referred to among the “weirdest,” but not all of them actually help to win rounds. We’ve put together a list of the most unconventional CS2 smokes that still offer real competitive advantages that can turn a game around.

Dust 2 A long smoke

As CTs, reaching long before the opposing Ts can be tricky. You either need to have the perfect spawn or flawless movement to achieve that, and even then, a slight delay can spell disaster for your team.

Instead of rushing long, players can use this peephole smoke to catch enemies off guard. This smoke falls on top of the long railing, creating a small window through which to pick off any enemies at the long doors. It’s a genius way to slow down the enemy team while still being able to add some bonus frags to the board.

Nuke Haven smoke

Nuke is heavily CT-sided, which is why T players often rush straight to B to try to find an early advantage before CTs can dig in defensively. The B site is seen as the safer option since CTs have a longer rotation to reach it. But after a few B hits, most CT teams will catch on and adjust. That’s where this stellar smoke comes in.

Haven in the A site is one of the toughest spots for Ts to deal with when pushing into the site. It’s at an odd angle relative to the hut, and from Squeaky it’s even riskier because CTs outside can take shots at you as you try to advance. This smoke completely shuts down that angle, giving you relatively safe control over the A site. It can also double as a fake A smoke players can use to pull early rotations away from B.

Overpass Haven smoke

Overpass’ layout is quite similar to Nuke in terms of CT rotation, and this commonality between these two popular CS maps means that fake smokes are crucial to win rounds on the T side.

Since this smoke can be thrown right from spawn, Ts can drop it early and then push up through A long for a quick site take. And while it’s one of the weirdest smokes in CS, it has more than one use case. You can also use thos same lineup when hitting B to block off Haven and secure early control of that site.

Mirage B fake smoke

Mirage is far from a small map, yet this smoke can travel all the way from CT spawn to the B site. It might sound strange, but the lineup is perfect for quietly clearing out the A site.

The smoke starts from outside the palace and drops into the middle of the apartment and pillars. This means that a lurker from A-short may be able to take down the CT on the bench. Or players can simply use this as a fun fake smoke to hit the A site.

Try these unconventional CS2 smokes to catch your enemies off guard and secure more rounds. They may be among the weirdest smokes in all of CS, but they’re also quite effective. Master them and you might find yourself pulling off the types of plays the best teams in Counter-Strike 2 are known for.
