Vtuber Shoto lore and cursed blade explained

Shoto vtuber

Shxtou, written and pronounced as Shoto in English, is a highly popular vtuber who primarily plays horror RPGs and uploads cover songs on his YouTube channel.

Shoto is known for his interactions with fans, who he calls Guildies. Similar to other popular vtubers like Camila, Shoto’s fans tend to tease and bully the content creator, although it’s all done in good nature. As compensation, Shoto calls them mean and bratty for this behavior.  He refers to his community as his “home” and highlights how important it is for the vtuber community, as a whole to support each other.

However, contrary to his joyful persona, Shoto the vtuber’s lore is full of loss, and the story of how he got his cursed blade is arguably one of the most tragic vtuber backstories.

The lore of Shoto the vtuber

Shoto’s vtuber lore is that of a normal kid who has a god’s blessing, but a tragedy changes his life completely.

As shown in one of his videos, Shoto was a normal kid with normal parents and a seemingly normal life. However, he was born with magic powers and God’s blessing which caused a hindrance in him living the simple life he wanted. He wanted to become a baker since that was his father’s career and to leave his hometown, Bakumori.

While many in his village were born with magic, Shoto’s God’s blessing caused him to be made an outcast as it heightened his sense of smell and allowed him to differentiate and the remember the scent of everyone. He didn’t have many friends growing up but did have a best friend, Ether. Ether, like Shoto, was born with magic but was an immigrant in Bakumori. The two understood each other and Shoto taught Ether magic and helped him with his studies.

How did Shoto get his black blade?

Shoto got his black blade when his best friend Ether died and became a mana-infused sword to help him defeat demons.

Shoto and Ether’s peaceful days changed when an army of demons came out of the portal leading to their village and slaughtered everyone. Shoto took Ether’s hand and tried to make a run for it, but they were unsuccessful.

They were apprehended by a female demon who attacked them. Ether tried to help but the demon slit his throat while dealing damage to Shoto. The demon left them there to die but Shoto managed to drag himself and Ether to the village shrine. Shoto prayed for the gods to save him and Ether.

Fortunately, a god listened and Shoto was miraculously healed, but Ether was beginning to fade away. Shoto begged the gods to save his friend’s life and someone placed their hand on Shoto’s head but he couldn’t see anyone. Then Ether disappeared into a cloud of mana.

In the end, Ether’s body was gone and in its place was left a “cursed blade.” Shoto calls that knife “the bane of all demons” and since that night he has vowed to rid the world of all demons. He wants vengeance to take revenge on those who took everything from him and also promised Ether that he would live for the two of them.

Shoto’s lore may be captivating, but the real-life abuse story of Froot brings a powerful perspective to the vtuber community.
