The MongolZ just did Team Vitality a massive favor by eliminating FURIA from the tournament, pulling off a massive upset to send the Brazilians packing. However, the reward for that is an even tougher challenge. The MongolZ must face Team Vitality in the semifinals, the team that has had their number far too many times in the past. Most fans had The MongolZ written off after they parted ways with Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold. And though there were plenty of doubts surrounding his replacement, Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar – but those doubts may have just been erased.
In his first international arena match, cobrazera dropped an incredible 1.34 rating to eliminate the number two team in the world. And with how he was performing in the group stage, this doesn’t look like a fluke performance.

What’s even crazier is how dominant The MongolZ looked throughout the series against FURIA. They crushed the opening map 13-3 and held 9-3 leads in both of the following maps. They did let the second map slip, but the big picture is pretty clear. They were in control across all three maps. If they clean up their gameplay and avoid choking huge leads, The MongolZ suddenly look like a legitimate top contender.

There haven’t been any surprises from Team Vitality here. They made light work of Aurora to comfortably book their spot in the semifinals. Though they did drop several rounds, it was business as usual, as they got the job done.

One of the only criticisms for Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut over the years has been his occasional tendency to go missing in playoff matches. However, that certainly wasn’t the case this time. He went nuclear and posted a ridiculous 1.66 rating against Aurora, boosting his tournament average to 1.44.
With how dominant Vitality have looked, and with their superstar firing on all cylinders, there’s not much to say about this team. They are still the best CS2 team in the world, and with FURIA and Team Falcons out of the tournament, it feels like they have an easy path to the trophy.
As much as we love a good underdog story, it’s hard to back the MongolZ on this one. They have pulled off some insane upsets in the past, but Vitality are a completely different beast.
Still, there is a silver lining for MongolZ fans. Vitality’s perma-ban is Ancient, which opens the door for The MongolZ to pick Mirage. This is their best map and the same one they smashed FURIA 13-3 on. It is also Vitality’s least successful map. These two teams have already met in the group stage, where The MongolZ picked Mirage and won it as well. However, beyond Mirage, the edge heavily favors Vitality. In their previous meeting earlier in the group stage, Vitality won the final two maps 13-4 apiece.
