Counter-Strike 2 players are always looking for a technical leg up on the competition, and Valve is offering some guidance with some recommended monitor and GPU settings players can use for their game.
There’s a running joke about PC gaming where serious players will build up the strongest possible rig, then move all the video options to the lowest possible settings. CS2 is one of the games where that’s very often true. With its spray patterns and unique movement system, players benefit from having the game running as smoothly as possible.
But what really are the best settings for Counter-Strike 2? That ultimately depends on the PC, but Valve has provided some official tips and tricks for having a better experience in the game.
Players can enjoy a better Counter-Strike 2 experience using certain graphics cards and monitor settings, as recommended directly by Valve. This will offer an extra boost on top of using CS2’s best video settings. Many of these recommendations will be obvious for veteran PC gamers, but those who aren’t as savvy would be well-served trying these out.
Here are some quick monitor and graphics card settings that can improve the Counter-Strike 2 experience:
Whether it’s Counter-Strike 2 or any other game, monitor settings are important and Valve is right to help players out by so directly addressing them. Many players can instantly improve how the game looks by increasing their refresh rate. Players should make sure to check this both in their monitor’s menus and in their operating system. The former can be done by pressing the buttons on the display, while the latter can be found in the video settings for Windows or whatever other operating system is in use.
Alongside this, graphics cards also have settings that can instantly improve how Counter-Strike 2 looks and feels. AMD graphics cards have FreeSync while Nvidia GPUs have G-Sync. FreeSync and G-Sync help to smooth out the experience as the game’s frame rate fluctuates.

That said, a higher refresh rate can introduce other issues. Screen tearing is a jarring phenomenon in gaming, as its name is a quite literal description of what occurs when this issue crops up. When screen tearing occurs, the display shows different elements on the screen separating from each other. This is caused by a discrepancy between the refresh rate of the monitor and the game’s frame rate, with multiple frames overlapping on the display at once to create a “tearing” effect.
V-sync will often fix this screen tearing. That said, enabling V-sync can have an adverse impact on performance. That impact is often directly proportional to how much strain is being put on the PC. The net impact of V-sync is likely to be positive for most players, but it can be a drag, so Valve’s recommendation isn’t necessarily equally applicable to all CS2 players.
As for the recommended Counter-Strike 2 video settings, Valve didn’t offer any special insight there. The game has the ability to automatically determine the best settings, and the Valve recommendation is to just roll with whatever the game says you should do. It’s worth a try for players who are experiencing issues, but those confident in fiddling with their own settings may still prefer to rely on their own expertise than the unexplained recommendations made by the game.
