Riot is finally giving fans info about Valorant Mobile, and a recent approval in China is hinting at a close release date.
Valorant is next on the table for Riot’s expansion of its mobile portfolio, and reports that it’s ready for release in China is a good indicator that the project is going well. Lead Riot developers have also commented on its development, confirming continued playtests. With China approving the game and developers releasing info on development, North American fans could expect an update in the near future. Riot Games is eager to expand its mobile games portfolio, though it could lead to some major changes for the game.
Based on developer statements, here’s what we know about Valorant Mobile’s release date.
There’s no official release date for Valorant Mobile yet, but Riot will likely have an update later in 2024.
While Daniel Ahmad, director of research and insights at Niko Partners, revealed that the game has been approved in China, this news doesn’t come with the Valorant Mobile’s release date attached to it. A press conference after Valorant Masters Madrid revealed that the team is still working on the game. Anna Donlon, the executive producer of Valorant, said that development continues for the game.
“We haven’t had any significant updates except for some leaks from some play tests… [there are] no official comms from us right now, but hopefully some updates maybe even later this year.” said Donlon.
With the game being approved for release in China already, it’s fair to expect an announcement from Riot in the near future.
Riot has not commented on agent changes in Valorant mobile, but there’s reason to believe they will be different.
However, Riot isn’t a stranger to changing a character’s ability and making it different from the PC version of the game. For example, in the original League of Legends, Lee Sin’s Safeguard needs an ally or a ward to use the ability. In the mobile game Wild Rift, it can be used even without the ward or ally that Lee Sin typically needs to dash to.
This is just one example of a character ability that is different between the PC and the mobile version. Many other Wild Rift characters including Fiddlesticks and Ashe have changes for mobile, which hints that many agents will be adjusted. While the abilities of the agents might be different, their core identity should remains the same. With Wild Rift setting a precedent, Valorant Mobile will likely have meaningful changes from the PC version.
