Valorant Mobile is finally on the horizon, but will mouse and keyboard be legal to use in the downsized shooter?
Valorant has a huge problem with cheaters similar to other free-to-play games like Valve’s massively popular Counter-Strike 2. However, Riot Games tries to make the game fair for players by attempting to flag cheaters and take action. Riot Vanguard, Riot’s kernel-level anti-cheat program, also plays a huge role in cracking down on cheaters for the desktop version, although that doesn’t apply to the mobile version. Riot is even rolling out a new feature that players can use to get their RR refund by reporting cheaters.
There is now news that an addition to Valorant mobile will help make the gameplay more fair, as players using a mouse and keyboard in Valorant Mobile may be facing bans.
Valorant Mobile is banning mouse users because Riot considers using a mouse to be an unfair advantage.
Riot Games’ anti-cheat program banning Valorant players for using a mouse and keyboard isn’t new, as console players faced the same. However, now Valorant Mobile players will also need to be careful, as they can face suspensions or harsher punishments.
According to reports, Valorant Mobile players will get the “cheater detected” red screen and they’ll get banned if they use a mouse or keyboard. In addition, players who use emulators will also face the same punishment.
Riot Games has shown in the past with Valorant’s console version that it wants its players to use the controller that is for their respective platform. The game is cross-console playable but not cross-platform playable so that may have something to do with Riot’s decision.
Some players argue that using a mouse and keyboard isn’t cheating, but Riot Games believes that Valorant Mobile should only be played with phone controls.
The Valorant Mobile users in favor of mouse and keyboard usage claim that they are just a different controller, so it should be allowed. However, other players argue that mice give Valorant players an advantage with aim assist and consider it cheating. In addition, using a mouse and keyboard also allows those players to use Valorant agents’ abilities more conveniently. While this is great for those players, other players feel it makes the gameplay less balanced.
Riot Games wants to ensure that there are fair and equal gameplay conditions for all players. Furthermore, Riot likely doesn’t plan on adding cross-platform play to Valorant, so that is even more motivation for the company to not let Valorant players on mobile or console use a mouse or keyboard.
