Riot has announced virtual currency prices in Valorant are going up, and fans aren’t exactly thrilled about it.
In a recent press release, Riot revealed that virtual currency will be increasing in certain regions starting on September 18, 2024. The impacted games include League of Legends and Valorant. Riot is offering bonus virtual currency in regions where prices are getting hiked starting September 4th, but this hasn’t really been enough to please the angry Valorant playerbase. Riot explained that the price increase is to reflect “global economy changes,” including exchange rates and local economies. This could result in “tough” price updates for certain regions, although Riot is hoping to keep it balanced to avoid “VPNs and server transfers” in order to buy currency at lower prices.
“We know that these changes are especially tough for players in regions with the largest increases, and we’re not thrilled about it either. The reality is that these adjustments are necessary to combat the manipulation we’re seeing in the system and to ensure that everyone is playing on a level field,” said Riot developers.
In its recent press release discussing the price changes, Valorant devs shared the specific changes for each impacted country. While some have seen no changes, like the US and Canada, others have seen a big increase. Here are the countries that have the biggest price hikes in Valorant.
In Valorant, over 20 countries will see a price spike for currency. While countries like Poland have praised Riot for actually reducing their currency prices, most countries have expressed anger with the changes across all of Riot’s games. Brazil was especially salty over the changes.
Valorant’s price change will go active on September 18, 2024 and the bonus currency event will start tomorrow for most countries. There will be a few exceptions, however.
Taiwan will get the double bonus promo from September 19 through October 3, 2024. Korea will get a bonus period and an additional 10% promo that runs from September 4 to September 22, 2024. Japanese players will have to await the date for the price change as well as the double bonus promo.
