It’s official that Valorant is coming to consoles, and Riot is hosting a beta test that anyone can join.
Valorant on consoles was first teased in 2020 by developer Joseph Ziegler, who confirmed other platforms are on the table. Rumors gained traction when Riot Games began seeking a console game designer in 2022 for Valorant. Everything has now fallen into place as Riot has officially announced the limited beta testing for Valorant on consoles at Summer Games Fest 2024. The developer behind Valorant has posted a brief blog post regarding the game’s console counterpart, confirming a limited beta test that will be playable in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Japan.
The exact release date for the Valorant console hasn’t been revealed, but it’s expected to be released sometime in 2024 after a beta testing phase that anyone can join.
To participate in Valorant beta testing on consoles, which starts on June 14, you’ll need exclusive keys from Riot Games. To participate in the limited beta, you may sign up at beta.playvalorant.com.
If you live in the USA, Canada, Europe, or Japan, you can enter testing whenever it goes live. Those who are outside of these countries and regions are also encouraged to sign up when the web goes live. The process for acquiring the keys is still unknown, but Riot may share details soon. It may include a friend invite system, where the developer distributes limited keys and allows owners to invite a friend. A system like Valorant PC, where keys would drop on streams, is unlikely, considering this is a limited beta.
It’s also worth noting that players who have received a permaban are restricted from player Valorant on the Console, even after the limited beta testing is over.
Valorant for consoles has been confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S platforms.
While the developer has confirmed platforms for the Valorant Console, it’s unknown whether crossplay will be available. When Valorant Mobile was announced, PC players were concerned about a crossplay possibility. Due to the mechanical disparity between PC and mobile gaming, a cross-platform option would have negatively impacted the experience for all players. However, it’s possible that crossplay between PC and Console may be available, but it’s a mere speculation.
Yes, Valorant will support cross-progression across multiple consoles.
This means that players who have previously played Valorant on PC will keep all their prized possessions on consoles. This is pretty huge for skin enthusiasts who have stacked skins worth thousands of dollars in their Valorant account. In addition, PC players will gain an edge over new console players with unlocked agents. First-timers will have to grind through levels to unlock agents in the Valorant console.
