Will The Rework On Harbor Make A Change In the VALORANT Meta?

Harbor VALORANT

In October 2022, VALORANT introduced Harbor, an agent based in India and the fifth controller in the game. Since his release, Harbor has sparked considerable discussion within the VALORANT community; however, he hasn’t been well-received, primarily due to his abilities. As a result, he has seen limited use among professional players in various VALORANT Esports tournaments.Recently, VALORANT announced major reworks to its abilities in the game. These changes went live on November 11. Let’s examine the history of Harbor in VALORANT and consider how its reworks may influence the VALORANT meta in 2026.

State of Harbor: Since its launch in VALORANT

Since Harbor’s launch, he has been one of the least-played agents in VALORANT. Over the past three years, he has not gained traction as a popular pick. The primary reason for this is that Harbor’s abilities are less reliable than those of other controllers.

Consequently, Harbor became the least-picked agent in ranked matches, with a pick rate of only 2.09% the lowest among all agents in 2025, according to Vstats.gg. He also had the lowest win rate at 44.55%, making a rework imperative following VALORANT Champions 2025.

Harbor’s signature ability before the rework was called High Tide. This ability allowed him to cast a wall that could be curved based on the player’s input and lasted for 15 seconds with a 40-second cooldown. Although this ability provided flexibility, it was not as easy to activate as Viper’s Toxic Wall. Additionally, his smoke ability, Cove, was inconsistent as players could not place it precisely like smokes like Omen or Astra. Proper placement relied on user-created controls, which made it impractical for many players.

State of Harbor in VCT 2025 Meta!

Within the VALORANT Champions Tour, the agent has been a niche pick. Around the world, there was only one player who was known for using Harbor quite a bit, and that was f0rsakeN from Paper Rex. Back in 2023, he frequently used the agent on Bind alongside other agents like Viper and Reyna. During the entire VALORANT Champions 2024, only three teams used Harbor; G2 Esports, Leviatan, and KRU Esports. The agent was only used on Abyss and Icebox during the event.

In the 2025 VALORANT Champions Tour season, the situation remained essentially unchanged, and Harbor did not receive significant buffs. Harbor was primarily used on Icebox and Abyss due to his ability to cover large areas and provide information on enemy positions. His High Tide ability also allowed attacking teams to plant the spike more easily by cutting off the defensive site.

During the 2025 VALORANT Champions, Harbor was only played on Abyss, with a pick rate of just 3%. Surprisingly, the agent was used by NRG Esports, who eventually became the Champions. Interestingly, they lost on Abyss against Fnatic in the grand finals. While this victory could have elevated Harbor’s status, it underscored the need for a significant overhaul of his abilities.

During the VALORANT Champions 2025, Riot Games announced a rework for the agent, which was showcased on the official VALORANT social media accounts on November 9. The first significant change is that High Tide will no longer be Harbor’s signature ability; instead, Cove will take its place. Harbor will also receive a new ability called Storm Surge, which functions as a water grenade that slows down and blinds Harbor’s within its impact radius.

Cove, Harbor’s smoke ability, has undergone a significant redesign. Similar to Omen’s smokes, players can now place these at their desired locations. There are two variants: shielded smoke and regular smoke. The shielded smoke can absorb damage from enemy bullets while protecting the player, whereas the regular smoke cannot be destroyed.

The ultimate ability, Reckoning, has also been reworked into a tidal wave of water. This wave will move forward in a specified direction, blinding and slowing down any enemies caught in its path. While this change may seem minor, it enhances the agent’s ability to support teammates on-site.

The Possible Impact Of The Rework

Compared to the previous version of Harbor, the agent is now significantly more viable. However, there are still some minor issues to address. Currently, Harbor has only one smoke ability, whereas other agents like Brimstone, Omen, and Killjoy have two or more options at their disposal. Additionally, Harbor’s Cove ability can be easily destroyed through spam, rendering it ineffective. Each of his abilities has only one charge, meaning that after its initial use, it is no longer available. In contrast, other agents possess signature abilities that can be reused after a specific cooldown period.

Harbor will probably be the go-to pick on a map like Icebox and Abyss during the 2026 season of VALORANT Esports. In specific maps, we can see the agent being used over Brimestone on Bind. We may see f0rsakeN play Harbor on Bind while something and Jinggg play Yoru and Raze. On a map like Corrode, some teams may opt to use the agent instead of Astra. With the rework to a majority of his abilities, will Harbor be quite the meta-defining agent during the VCT 2026 Season?
