Kanel Joseph has been banned permanently banned from streaming on Twitch, leaving his followers to wonder what happened to the streamer and what was done to justify his permanent ban.
Kanel “KanelJoseph” Joseph started his career by streaming other people’s Minecraft videos and providing commentary on top of the stream. Kanel now mainly focuses on pranks and IRL streams, uploading them as videos to his sizable YouTube channel. He currently boasts 2.5 million followers on his YouTube channel while maintaining a slow but steady rise in popularity.
Kanel Joseph has been locked up for taking his pranks too far before and has also gotten in trouble with the streaming platform Twitch. His channel was temporarily banned in the past, and that proved to be but a sign of things to come. On January 18, Twitch banned Kanel Joseph again and this time it’s permanent.
According to a screenshot Kanel Joseph shared on X, he received his latest Twitch ban for “recording others against their will.”
Twitch doesn’t publicly issue statements when banning streamers or channels from the platform. But Kanel Joseph did share the email he received when his channel was banned, and it provided viewers with a reason for his ban. At the same time, it brought up more questions than answers for viewers.
Twitch confirmed that the offense occurred while the streamer was filming a particular video on the platform. During the stream, he would give money to a homeless person and see what the money would be spent on. While the VOD is understandably inaccessible, an X user claims that someone on the stream asked Kanel to stop filming him and that the streamer continued filming regardless. He apparently turned off the camera’s lights and continued filming the person in secret. This would be the likely cause of the ban, if the claim is to be believed.
If that wasn’t enough, the X user went on to allege that the homeless person was selling unlawful items, and that this is why they didn’t want any cameras to record them. This may have prompted Twitch to look into the matter more carefully and implement tougher consequences for Kanel Joseph this time around.
Many fans have since requested that Twitch reconsider its decision as they believe the ban is unfair. Some viewers claim that if Kanel had turned off the cameras as requested the streamer’s safety might have been at risk. Other fans have asked the streamer to switch to another live-streaming platform, such as Kick or Rumble, to the continue streaming live despite his being permanently banned on Twitch. On the other hand, others believe Kanel tends to take his pranks too far and that these latest consequences are fully justified.
