TwitchCon has always been the go-to event for Twitch streamers, but more and more content creators have stopped attending it for varying reasons, bringing the event’s future into question for some.
Popular livestreaming platform Twitch hosts TwitchCon every year, a convention that sees many popular streamers attend major announcements made. The event is a great spot for streamers looking to network or to meet their fans, but it looks as though some content creators are becoming increasingly wary of the event, as some of the bigger names in the streaming industry have announced their decisions not to attend TwitchCon this year.
Multiple streamers have come out to say that they won’t attend TwitchCon and the reasons why are varied, ranging from mental health, to the time it takes to attend the event, to general safety concerns.
Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter announced on her podcast Wine About It that she and Blair “QTCinderella” were backing out of TwitchCon. The duo shared the sentiment of not being comfortable performing on the event’s stage, but Valkyrae also mentioned traveling as a potential issue. Traveling to such events can be difficult for content creators with multiple commitments up in the air.

Political streamer Hasan “HasanAbi” Parker is another high-profile name who has announced that he won’t attend the event. HasanAbi’s reasoning is unique to him, as he specifically named John “Tectone” Robertson as the cause for his not attending TwitchCon. The duo have gone back and forth on social media, but it’s confirmed that Hasan won’t be seen in San Diego.
Streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys has also expressed reservations about going to TwitchCon but hasn’t yet announced that she’s backing out and is expected to attend the San Diego convention. LilyPichu also stated on the Sweet n’ Sour podcast that she will attend TwitchCon because she has a booth there, but may cancel the meet and greet event because she isn’t “in the mood to meet people lately.”
Some fans have been dismayed by how many streamers may not be seen at the event, as TwitchCon is a celebration where content creators can meet and connect with their audiences in person.
Streamers have avoided going to TwitchCon in the past and some have even criticized the event, so this isn’t exactly a new phenomenon.
This isn’t the first time notable names have decided to back out of attending TwitchCon. Natalia “Alinity” Mogollon skipped the event in 2022 because of “lack of empathy among streamers.” Felix “xQc” Lengyela also criticized TwitchCon that same year, calling the event “an illness.”
Fans are worried that they may not be able to see their favorite content creators IRL if more streamers continue to stop attending TwitchCon, but it’s unclear whether this is just a temporary issue of fatigue or the start of something more lasting. Twitch is certainly incentivized to make its own event a success, but if the biggest streamers don’t want to attend it, it may become a toothless affair.
