Joseph Joon “Jojopyun” Pyun has been fired from Cloud9, according to Christian “IWillDominate” Rivera, specifically for a poor work ethic.
Cloud9’s 2024 summer roster was meant to be a super team capable of slaying LoL esports gods. In the top lane, Korean prodigy Park “Thanatos” Seung-gyu, brought over from the LCK sister leagues. Robert “Blaber” Huang, the NA GOAT for his position, in jungle, and superstar ADC Kim “Berserker” Min-Cheol and Phillipe “Vulcan” Leflamme in support. In the middle of this mountain of talent was Jojopyun, the young, aggressive superstar mid laner meant to change the face of the LCS. They were one of the three top teams, supposedly untouchable by anybody below that FLY, TL, C9 line. And yet, at the end of summer, the team missed Worlds after it suffered embarrassing back-to-back losses to FlyQuest and 100 Thieves.
In the aftermath of playoffs, IWillDominate reported that Jojopyun was terminated from Cloud9 for a shocking reason.
According to Christian “IWDominate” Rivera, Jojopyun was fired from Cloud9 for constantly being late to matches and practice.
In a video published to IWillDominate’s channel, the former pro player and current streamer revealed that Cloud9 had terminated Jojopyun’s contract. The reason why was a history of constant tardiness that wowed many fans. According to IWillDominate, Jojo began to regularly run late for team activities and work, and after it happened repeatedly, the staff began to count instances of tardiness. By the end of the split, the young mid laner had allegedly racked up an astonishing 43 instances of being late, after the staff had begun counting.
This total doesn’t include occasions on which Jojopyun was tardy before the staff began an official count. This news shocked many NA fans, who were disappointed to hear that the player whose teammate Blaber described as likely the highest-paid player in the league was being lackadaisical around his job. To many fans, Jojopyun seemed like a piece of C9 more likely to survive the offseason than not, given his popularity and star status. Instead, the multi-time champion organization has apparently decided to start over in the mid lane.
Jojopyun has not yet made official comment. IWillDominate said that this news was likely to be released by “other sources” in the future, but no further developments have yet occurred.
