This game-breaking CS2 bug gives you a free defuse kit

CS2_inferno

CS2 players are no strangers to game-breaking glitches, but the latest glitch works in their favor by granting a free defuse kit.

Counter-Strike 2 is still an ongoing project for Valve, but many issues remain in the tactical shooter. For example, bugs can persist for months before Valve notices them. This latest exploit does not affect shooting mechanics, but those aware of it can use it to change the match outcome by exploiting the economy

On May 20, a CS2 player highlighted a long-standing defuse kit exploit that offers an often overlooked, yet precious CT side item at no cost.

CS2 bug gives players a free defuse kit

During a stream from CS2 content creator tweeday, a player jokingly disconnected from the game, leaving his teammates concerned. He quickly returned to the game and announced that he now had a free defuse kit. He advised the rest to do the same. Another player tested the bug, and it performed consistently for them as well.

Here’s how the free defuse kit bug works in CS2.

  • Purchase a defuse kit
  • Quit the game
  • Return to the game
  • Refund the kit

If players do everything right, they will have both a defuse kit as well as the money from refunding it. Needless to say, this is an obvious glitch and will likely be removed from the game sooner rather than later.

This bug can be a difference-maker in many roundsw since a defuse kit costs a hefty $400 and is an item that CTs often choose not to buy and regret later. If the entire team exploits this, they’ll be saving a significant amount of money while being able to neutralize the C4 threat in half the time, potentially altering the course of the game. While it works throughout the game, this bug is particularly useful in the first round on the CT side when money is short.

This bug is not new, as it existed when CS2 was first released. Players report it’s now back in the game, distributing free defuse kits in CS2.

While it may be enticing to utilize this bug, it is recommended that players refrain from exploiting it. Valve may soon implement a fix, as this exploit can have a significant impact at higher levels of play. It’s also important to consider that players with slower computers may risk facing a cooldown for not reconnecting to the servers in time.
