This day in Fortnite history: Kevin the Cube landed on the island

What game were you playing three years ago? Most people were probably playing the best game at the time: Fortnite.

August of 2018 was the heyday for Fortnite. We had weekly updates, fresh content, and a game the likes of which we had never seen.

This was also the time when we began to understand that something deeper was going on. The Visitor had already taken off in his rocket and blasted a Rift in the sky. As we know, Kevin was eventually born from that rift.

The four-dimensional purple cube didn’t have a name at the time. It was the community that named it Kevin – something Epic eventually adopted as the official name for it.

From there, Kevin was the driving force of the rest of the Chapter 1 plot. Kevin melted into Loot Lake, circled the map, and eventually triggered the Butterfly Event – the most stunning event of its time.

That led to the discover of the Zero Point, which brought an end to the loop seasons later – or was it the beginning.

We still have a long list of unanswered questions about Kevin. Will he ever return? Why did he come here in the first place? Was the IO controlling him?

Hopefully, some of these questions will be answered in the near future. We can only assume that Kevin will return at some point.

Some rumors even say that he’ll be a part of the transition between Chapter 2 Seasons 7 and 8.
