Some may want to join the vtuber streaming scene, but it is important to consider the cost of making a vtuber model.
The inception of streaming while keeping one’s identity private is especially useful for people who want to showcase themselves publicly but keep a low profile IRL. Vtubers like Ironmouse have shown how much the public can support streamers even if they don’t show their faces. This displays that the audience is heavily invested in content and prioritizes it over a streamer’s private life. There are many more examples of vtubers such as Shylily and other streamers who keep their lives private, but have massive followings.
Those on the ledge thinking about becoming a virtual streamer should know what being a vtuber will cost them.

The cost of making a vtuber model depends on many factors such as whether the model is 2D or 3D and how sophisticated one wants the model to be.
A high-end 3D vtuber model that moves fluidly can cost up to five figures. Nowadays many vtubers such as Matara Kan have 3D models. The art of these models can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on the artist. Some artists even charge as high as $10,000. The rigging which gives the models more lifelike movement is another $2,000 to $6,000. If a vtuber wants a top-tier model, it’ll cost approximately $10,000.
However, not all vtuber models cost so much. It’s possible to make a relatively cheap vtuber model but you’ll need to cut corners. For instance, if a vtuber wants to make a 2D model it’ll be less expensive than a 3D model. Similarly, if the fluid movement of the model isn’t a priority it can be made at almost half the cost of a high-end model.
There are more costs other than just making the model. For example, William “Scarra” Li of Offline TV shared on his Fake Fans Podcast that when fans see a new vtuber model, it costs “essentially $10,000” to debut.
The streamer elaborated that his dragon model’s art and rigging cost him between $6,000 and $8,000. Scarra explained that vtubers make videos and other assets to debut their models. This is why when a vtuber debuts a new model it’ll likely cost around $10,000.
