The surrender rules in Spectre Divide explained

spectre divide

The most recent Spectre Divide update made impactful changes to the surrender system, but what were the rules in the first place?

On September 10, 2024, a week after the FPS’ launch, a big patch dropped that included changes to the game’s controversial XP progression and improvements to gameplay. Inspired by the mechanical focus of Valorant, Spectre Divide puts a considerable emphasis on competitive gameplay. As such, ranked mode launched almost immediately, and the recent update made a change to how surrendering works for players on the grind.

Here’s how the surrender feature works in Spectre Divide.

How to surrender in Spectre Divide

Any Spectre Divide player can start a surrender vote for their team by typing one of the following chat messages.

  • /ff
  • /forfeit
  • /surrender
  • /concede

Surrender Spectre Divide

Once a surrender vote is initiated, all players must vote yes for it to pass. The voting screen will pop up at the start of the buy phase of a round or the next round’s buy phase if the surrender is started during the middle of a round. If a player has abandoned a match, the remaining team members can surrender during any round and it will end if they all vote yes.

During the most recent patch, the developers of Spectre Divide made it so players can surrender starting at round two of a match. This was added so players could leave if “games don’t go your team’s way” or a teammate bails on the match. Surrendering will ensure the game doesn’t impact a player’s XP due to unforeseen issues out of their control.

If a team surrenders, they won’t receive progress on contracts that require matches to be played or won. They also won’t get any crew points and the match won’t count towards the three that are needed to join a crew.

Does surrendering impact your rank?

Surrendering in Spectre Divide will impact a player’s rank in ranked mode.

The team that surrenders will take the maximum loss in their Santai rating. Players only lose Santai rating corresponding to what they’d lose if they had lost the match. Still not great, but better than playing out a losing game when they could just join a new one.

While surrender rules in Spectre Divide are clear, Valorant’s console version has its own unique surrender challenges—find out why it’s impossible to surrender on console.
