FuwaMoco is quickly becoming one of the most popular acts in Hololive, but they had a fascinating past life together before joining the company.
Hololive Advent has been a massive success for the company, thanks to its colorful cast of talents. Of those talents, the pair of Fuwawa and Mococo Abyssgard, collectively known as FuwaMoco, has enraptured the hearts of English and Japanese fans alike. The gimmick of having two sisters streaming as a collective makes FuwaMoco stand out in a sea of vtubers. However, this isn’t the first time the twins joined up as vtubers. Years before their stint in Hololive, the twins weren’t a pair of demon dogs imprisoned for vague crimes.
Instead, in their past life, FuwaMoco was a pair of humble tour guides dedicated to showing people the beauty of Japan.
FuwaMoco Past Life (Welcome Back!)
In their past life, FuwaMoco was part of the Go! Go! Nippon! Live With You! YouTube channel as the twins Akira and Makoto Misaki.
Notably, the Misaki twins already existed as characters before their vtuber careers. The two starred in the visual novel Go! Go! Nippon! ~My First Trip to Japan, a game about a foreigner’s trip to the eponymous country.
The Misaki twins acted as tour guides for the player, and the usual visual novel shenanigans occur. In 2021, the twins debuted as vtubers and cultivated a small but dedicated fanbase. The Misaki twins were regulars of the r/VirtualYoutubers subreddit, where they became familiar faces. By 2022, they reached 10,000 subscribers on YouTube and got solid views for a channel their size. They even appeared as guests for Kizuna Ai’s iconic “hello, world 2022” concert.

Unfortunately, the channel’s parent company reportedly saw no future in the vtuber space and announced the twins’ graduation. During their final chatting stream, they even admitted not knowing if they would voice act in the next game. The pair quietly graduated in October 2022, much to the dismay of fans. Things remained silent for several months, and fans didn’t know if or when the pair would return as independent vtubers. Instead of the independent scene, the twins returned as Fuwawa and Mococo Abyssgard of Hololive Advent on July 2023. Fuwamoco have yet to acknowledge their past life as voice actors.
