Esports organization OG has revealed it will be parting ways with its South American regional roster, OG.LATAM following the conclusion of their trial period. News of the departure was announced on OG’s Espanol account on Oct. 21.
The news ends a six-month period of experimentation for OG in the South American region. First signed on April 25, OG.LATAM consisted originally of Héctor “K1” Rodríguez, Gonzalo “DarkMago” Herrera, Mario “ILICH-” Valdivia, Yelsthin “Elmisho” Hurtado, Joel “MoOz” Ozambela, and coach Juan “Vintage” Angulo, the former roster of Perritos Panzones. Each of these players had extensive experience in the SA region, having played on top teams like BOOM Esports and beastcoast.
The run with this squad started promisingly, with the team bootcamping at OG’s facilities in Portugal. But after finishing almost dead last at DreamLeague Season 26, their first event, the squad struggled with qualifiers, missing out on The International, The Esports World Cup, DreamLeague Season 27, FISSURE Playground 2, and PGL Wallachia 6, effectively missing out on every major tournament in that six-month window.
With those results, it seems OG was ready to pull the plug. However, this decision may be related to a little more than just results. On Oct. 20, OG also announced it would be parting ways with its OG Seed Marvel Rivals roster. Earlier this month OG founder and two-time TI winner Johan “N0tail” Sundstein returned to play on the organization’s main Dota 2 roster.
This could be seen as a larger shift for the organization following its acquisition by blockchain company, Chiliz Group. A house-keeping exercise that sees some of the organizations’ least profitable endeavors cut, and moves made to keep running costs low. Chiliz Group has a controlling, 51% stake in OG.
As for the rest of the organization, progress on rebuilding their roster to its former glory has been slow. The main roster missed out on qualifying for the rest of the 2025 events, and will now likely have to sit out much of the pro Dota going on until 2026. For the organization, competition success can’t come soon enough.
