The drama surrounding vtuber Elara explained

Elara vtuber

Vtuber Elara, an elf known for her news-focused content on YouTube, is under fire from other vtubers that feel she is trying to get views off of their drama.

Elara is known for her goth aesthetic, straightforward news, and, well, other assets. She often shares sensitive streamer drama within the vtuber realm, including the spiked drinks at TwitchCon. But a recent video included news of female presenting vtubers like Peachy and Saymmi getting sexually assaulted by another content creator going by CLBOrCaleb.

Now, many vtubers are questioning if Elara and other news content creators should be using others’ traumatic experiences as news, especially without asking.

Elara drama revolves around sharing vtuber experiences

The drama around Elara stems from her sharing another vtuber’s negative experience without their permission.

In late September, Saymmi shared that she’d gone to a club with other vtubers, including Caleb. While they were “vibing” at first, Saymmi noticed that Caleb was extremely drunk at the club “and started kissing everybody, touching everybody without asking.” This later escalated once they left the club. While in the Uber, Caleb put his hands around Saymmi and another female friend’s neck before touching her breast during the rest of the car ride.

Once Saymmi shared her experience on X, other female vtubers also shared what happened with Caleb that night. At that point, Caleb was being accused of sexually assaulting multiple people that night and not showing any remorse after. Another content creator who came forward, Peachy, was very adamant that she didn’t want other streamers using the story for clout or making comments about it on stream.

Saymmi Vtuber stream

In early October, Elara posted a since-deleted YouTube video with the latest vtuber-related news, including Ironmouse’s subathon record as well as the accusations against Caleb. Saymmi quickly reacted on X, calling Elara out by stating: “Hopefully my trauma brings you views. It’s good to spread awareness of what happened but you could have done it differently or at least ask for permission. Not put me and other victims in a vtuber news stream and even make a YouTube video.”

In response, Elara tweeted that she had actually tried to reach out to Saymmi. But this was also met with Saymmi stating that Elara hadn’t even waited for a response. Elara blamed the situation on “unfortunate timing” and told Saymmi to reach out to her. She then deleted the video.

On another vtuber news channel that discussed the drama between Elara and other vtubers who didn’t want their story rehashed, Elara commented that she had reached out to Saymmi but was not looking for consent since the situation had already been shared quite publicly.

“I’ve covered a few SA cases in the past (like Tora) and this was the first time I’ve had someone upset by the coverage. I hope they know my intention was never malicious and only meant to inform the community of the assualter,” wrote Elara.

Many vtubers and those in the community have condemned Elara for not waiting for a response. Many pointed out that Elara didn’t seem to have any remorse and that she’s done similar things in the past. Vtuber Missus Mummy even said she decided to block Elara after the drama unfolded. The post about the situation has been deleted, but Missus Mummy has tweeted since that the community “lacks compassion” and that she felt the need to stand up for her friend Saymmi.

“She took zero accountability and claimed it was bad timing,” the deleted tweet from Missus Mummy read. “Don’t apologize for covering it in the first place without asking.”
