A great support character can make or break dozens of other characters or team compositions, and Oberon definitely deserves the title in FGO.
Sometimes a new character release hits a game’s meta like a nuclear bomb. That’s exactly what the pretender-class Oberon did to FGO. Oberon unlocked an entirely new avenue of Noble Phantasm looping, with damage boosts that put previously unused servants on the map as premier farmers. His buffs also give him great utility in finishing off challenge quests.
Here are some tips for using Oberon to his full potential in FGO as well as how to get him.
FGO’s Oberon is a monster, but he’s a monster that requires some care and thought for his abilities. Two of his skills have a delayed debuff effect on the buffed ally, so it is important to time the use of those skills effectively.
All that to say, Oberon can take an ally’s damage through the roof and charge their NP by 70%, but will take them out of commission for the rest of the fight. He is currently instrumental in buster looping teams, alongside two Koyanskaya of Light, a buster servant with a 30% or more self-charge, and a 50% charge craft essence.
On turn one, pop the buster servant’s self-charge and use the Koyanskayas’ third skill on the damage dealer and fire away. Turn two, use the foxes’ batteries and fire again. Using the plugsuit received during the story to switch Oberon, throw his buffs onto the damage dealer, use their battery again, and finish the battle with another NP to win most fights in FGO.
He can also do this.
Oberon is a limited 5-star, meaning he is only available during specific banners in FGO.
NA players can look at the JP schedule to get an idea of upcoming banners for the next two years. The next Oberon banner should be in mid-December 2024. This gives players about four months to save up their rolls.
