Team Liquid finalized its 2024 LCS roster with the return of Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon.
Team Liquid will continue with its partially Korean experiment throughout 2024. In 2023, the organization surprised the North American community by adopting an all-Korean approach. All five members of the roster, as well as the coaching staff, spoke exclusively in Korean. This experiment took a turn in the Summer season when the team promoted North American mid-laner Eain “APA” Stearns from the Team Liquid Challengers squad. The players shared their struggles to communicate, especially APA and jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon who didn’t speak English.
For 2024, Team Liquid is going with a Korean-majority roster once again. This time, the organization ensured that communication among the players was smoother than in its 2023 iteration. Top laner Jeong “Impact” Eon-young is returning to Team Liquid. Impact was a crucial part of the Team Liquid roster that earned four back-to-back LCS titles.
In the jungle, Team Liquid is adding Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon, nicknamed The General.
UmTi has played for teams like KT Rolster and the now-disbanded Jin Air Green Wings. UmTi is known for being a proactive and aggressive jungler who is not afraid to call shots in-game. Team Liquid shared a video of UmTi introducing himself to the fans in English. In the video, UmTi seems comfortable communicating in a foreign language.
UmTi’s addition will be a change of pace for Team Liquid’s roster. While Pyosik played aggressively, his plays were often often reckless. UmTi is known for his cool demeanor and strategic approach to the game. In the introduction video, UmTi shared his excitement about joining the LCS and named Cloud9 jungler Robert “Blaber” Huang as the one player he is looking forward to facing the most.
Bot lane duo Sean “Yeon” Sung and Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, alongside APA will remain with the team through 2024. The organization called up coach Jake “Spawn” Tiberi who previously worked with TL Challengers. The rest of the coaching staff remains the same.
Team Liquid is in need of a rebound. The organization hasn’t won a title since Summer 2019. Since then, the highest placement achieved by the team has been second, both times in 2021.
