G2 has announced that coach Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas is departing from the organization, while Eetu “sAw” Saha is replacing him as the team’s new head coach.
TaZ has been part of G2 as a coach for over a year, and the Polish legend has led the team to multiple victories over the course of his tenure. He helped G2 to first place at BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2024, BLAST Premier: World Final 2024, and Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2024. But while G2 won multiple titles in 2024, the team’s performance hasn’t been as strong in recent months.
TaZ stepped in as a player to cover for Nemanja “huNter—” Kovač at PGL Astana 2025, but the team failed to perform well there. In May of the same year, reports surfaced that sAw would join G2 as a coach, which hinted that the team was considering removing TaZ due to underwhelming performances. In June, G2 officially announced that TaZ is leaving the team and the former coach also tweeted about his departure from the organization.
In a heartfelt tweet, TaZ said farewell to the team and players at G2. The former G2 coach stated that he’d like to stay in the world of Counter-Strike 2 but is unsure about his future at this time.
TaZ tweeted that his time at G2 has reached its end and then individually shared his sentiments about the team’s players and staff. He thanked cousins Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač for making him feel welcome and for their many conversations shared together. The former coach advised Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa to continue trusting himself and to remain humble despite his great success and skill.
TaZ told Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko to learn from his losses and not be too hard on himself. His comment about Rasmus ‘HooXi’ Nielsen has riled up fans, even though it was in a light vein. TaZ called the former G2 in-game leader a “b—-” and some of the team’s fans are angry about it despite it being clear the former G2 coach was only joking.
Fan reactions has generally been strong on TaZ leaving G2, with many claiming he was the reason the team’s performance had dipped as much as it had. The former player pushed the team to some success, but the squad had failed to win any significant titles in more recent times. This is likely why G2 decided to change coaches and try to revive the team’s performance following the side being knocked out of the 2025 Austin Major.
Heroic’s former coach sAw is now set to replace TaZ as head coach at G2, and Heroic’s former AWPer Álvaro “SunPayus” García is also joining the esports organization.
Finnish Counter-Strike veteran sAw earned much success while coaching Heroic. He led the team to multiple victories and secured first place in various tournaments. Those events ranged from the Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2023 to the CCT Season 2 Global Finals 2025. Heroic generally performed well under his leadership, and G2 likely hopes that with sAw it can change the team’s recent fortunes. Heroic’s former AWPer, SunPayus, is also joining sAw and is expected to be G2’s new main sniper.
