Spirit have claimed their first title in 2026 at PGL Astana, besting Falcons 3:0 in a relatively one-sided Grand Final. The victory puts an end to Spirit’s nine-month trophy drought, which lasted since their IEM Cologne 2025 success.
As a result of this win, Spirit will be among the CS2 odds favorites to challenge Vitality for the IEM Cologne Major trophy, especially considering the Bees’ stumble at IEM Atlanta.
Here’s how Spirit outlasted the competition and lifted the PGL Astana 2026 trophy.
Before the event, Spirit were touted as the CS2 betting favorites to lift the PGL Astana trophy in the absence of Vitality, and they delivered on that expectation. The Russian-speaking team dropped only a single map on their way to the title.
It’s worth mentioning that despite the PGL Astana field not being as stacked as it would be at a marquee IEM event or a Major, Spirit beat several top CS2 teams on their way to the trophy, including The MongolZ, FURIA, G2, MOUZ, and their Grand Final opponents, Falcons.
While Falcons were on a hot run of form in the playoffs, having previously destroyed magic and outlasted FURIA in a marathon BO3, the international squad failed to match Spirit’s firepower and tactical prowess.
After closing out the first map of Dust II in overtime, Spirit took control of the match and never let go of it, cruising to a 3:0 victory.

One of the biggest criticisms of Spirit over the past two years has been that it’s a one-man show, and if Danil” donk” Kryskovets isn’t firing on all cylinders, then they can’t win against the top teams.
However, recently, that narrative has shifted, with visible upticks in performance from Andrey “tN1R” Tatarinovich and the rest of the squad. Those improvements could be largely attributed to Spirit dialing in their utility usage.
A common opinion within the Counter-Strike community was that donk, despite being one of the best CS2 players, receives very little support compared to his counterparts on other teams. This notion seems to be outdated.
At PGL Astana 2026, Spirit had the highest flash assists to round ratio, which was evident not only in the stats but also inside the game. It was rare to see Falcons players not blind when Spirit were entrying onto a site in the Grand Final.
With the teamplay and utility upgrades enabling Spirit’s players to do their best work on the server, they suddenly became an even scarier opponent. They are powering up at the perfect time to strike at the upcoming CS2 events, including the Major.

While claiming the PGL Astana 2026 title is obviously a massive success, everyone, including Spirit, has their eyes on the biggest prize of all, the IEM Cologne 2026 Major trophy.
Thanks to their most recent form, Spirit are one of the first names that come to mind when considering teams that could realistically challenge Vitality in Cologne, alongside Natus Vincere and, less likely, Falcons.
If they are able to maintain this level of performance up until the end of the season, there is a world where we see Spirit lifting their second Major trophy on June 21st.
