Sonic x Fortnite collaboration doesn’t contain skins for now

Sonic x Fortnite

The latest change to the hit battle royale game brought the highly anticipated Sonic x Fortnite collaboration. It isn’t live in the Item Shop just yet, but it will be soon after it officially got decrypted. There are all sorts of items coming to the game from the popular gaming series that has also found its way into television and film. Unfortunately, there weren’t any skins found in the collaboration, at least not at this time.

No Sonic x Fortnite Skins revealed in update

According to leaker HYPEX, there are only shoes, car decals, and Jam Tracks (which were previously leaked in the crossover) available from Sonic x Fortnite, now new Fortnite skins. The leaker noted that the crossover did not include any skins, but added, “Maybe they’re saving the skins for later.”

It is important to note, however, that there is no Fortnite leaks evidence of there being any skins right now. The leaker clarified that those weren’t leaked, but that many expected there to be a Sonic or Shadow skin. This wave of the crossover did not include them, and they theoretically could come in a hypothetical second wave, but we don’t know that for certain yet.

Skins would be challenging

Any sort of Sonic the Hedgehog Fortnite skin would be difficult to pull off. For reference, most Fortnite skins stand about 185 centimeters tall in-game. Sonic, in his outings as a video game character, is about 100 centimeters tall. That doesn’t make any Shadow, Knuckles, Silver, or Espio skin easy to pull off. The dimensions don’t match.

The alternative, one which Epic Games has used before, is to use mechs. That would successfully bring the popular video game character into the metaverse. But since it would require a mech for every single character, it’s not as likely.

There is, however, still plenty of room for a second wave of cosmetics. The Sonic logo could be implemented as a back bling. A Sonic car from the upcoming Sonic Racing CrossWorlds could become a glider. Other characters besides Shadow and Sonic could have their shoes brought in for kicks.

More songs from the games could join Live and Learn and Escape from the City in the Jam Tracks section. Currently, it’s not guaranteed that there will be a second wave. However, it’s certainly very possible given all the things Epic hasn’t yet brought over.
