While G2 Esports dominated Masters Bangkok until it was finally defeated in the grand final, the team hasn’t recaptured that success since. Its performance in the recent Masters Toronto event was subpar relative to its expected level of play, and things went even worse in the Esports World Cup. Sentinels performed somewhat better, but both teams are currently in a similar place. G2 and Sentinels will now face off in the first week of the second stage of VCT 2025: Americas, with either side coming off at least one loss.
Betting tip: While G2 Esports was one of the strongest teams earlier this year, its current slump may make Sentinels the team to side with for bettors.
Sentinels has seemingly bounced back from the lackluster state it was in during Masters Bangkok. N4RRATE and bang are performing better with the other players, and zekken continues to be the team’s standout player. The duelist’s initiations perfectly set up pushes and other aggressive plays for his team. He’s also usually supported by his controller, whether that’s bang or johnqt.
Speaking of johnqt, his performance has been leaving much to be desired. While his mechanical skills aren’t up to par when compared to most other top players, that isn’t his only weakness. His strategies have seemed to have multiple holes recently, and while his status as IGL forces him to play controller or initiator, Zellsis performs as a weak sentinel. The team’s strength is likely its mental state, which should be relatively good considering it was the only team in the region to reach EWC 2025’s playoffs.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that G2 Esports has fallen off in the summer. The team was a force to be reckoned with when Tejo was in the game’s meta, but his nerfs have put a hole in G2’s strategy and playing style. This isn’t necessarily to say that the team is now weak, as jawgemo and JonahP are both strong players. JonahP in particular brings a lot to the table with his versatility, ensuring his team always has its required roles set.
The rest of G2 is too inconsistent to rely on. While leaf’s recent health complications forced him to miss the Esports World Cup, trent and valyn were extremely unreliable. The team still has the mechanical skills expected from a top Valorant side, but its quality in tactics and utility usage have both declined, resulting in the team’s recent poor placements. G2 is still capable of winning games, but the team’s performance isn’t as consistent as it was earlier in the year, which could translate poorly in the best-of-three match against Sentinels.

While both teams are in a bad spot relative to where they were earlier in the year, G2’s overall mental state could be much worse here. Coming off three consecutive losses and failing to even qualify for the EWC 2025 playoffs may stop the team’s players from playing as well as they typically have. While Sentinels needs to better strategize and prepare more if it wants a better chance to win at the international level, but the team’s basic mechanical skills may be enough to scrape out a win over a subdued G2.
Our Sentinels vs G2 Esports pick: Sentinels as the match winner 2-1 at 1.4 odds at GG.BET.
