After a decisive upset by FURIA against Cloud9 in the first match of the League of Legends Americas Cup, Sentinels will not get their LCS Lock-In rematch. Instead, FURIA gets a chance to tell the world that Brazil should not be underestimated.
Was Cloud9 too jetlagged, or does FURIA have the key to take down their Northern neighbors? The Americas Cup upper bracket final starts at 1pm PST / 10pm CET.

Betting tip: RED Canids also exposed Sentinels’ early game, but the latter look more unshakable than Cloud9. Sentinels should take it 3-1.
My Sentinels vs FURIA pick: Over 3.5 maps at 1.29 odds at GG.BET.
The consensus before the Americas Cup was that the LCS teams should win every game. Day 1 began, and the CBLOL immediately subverted expectations as FURIA beat C9 without making it look tough. Sentinels avenged them by beating RED Canids, but they had to make a comeback in game 1.
C9 was exhausted from their flight and the jet lag on the first day, and this must be kept in mind. That wasn’t the reason FURIA won, though. FURIA repeatedly used a common strategy in the CBLOL. They bring more members to a fight, use strong engage tools, and win fights that way. Somehow, C9 didn’t prepare for that.
Sentinels fared much better. RED Canids pushed them down in the early game, but they came back in game 1 before winning the next one in a convincing fashion.
The lower bracket match showed that FURIA is on another level compared to Red Canids. While the latter struggles to get a lead or to hold onto one, FURIA is more decisive. RED Canids were still able to take Cloud9 to five games. Logically, with C9 dominating Sentinels in North America, everything there should point to a FURIA victory.
However, the likely risk for FURIA is underestimating Sentinels. Cloud9’s mentality is probably not in a great place. The would-be NA champions failed to qualify for First Stand against all odds just three days before. Three supposedly weaker opponents defeated them in a row. This makes it hard to keep a cool head.
Sentinels aren’t going through this, and it is FURIA who has to demonstrate that they can get back on their feet if they fall behind during the series, never mind during a game.

Can FURIA pull off the upset against Sentinels as well in the Americas Cup? Image Source: Riot Games
This match-up is much closer than expected, and C9 being in poor form makes it hard to gauge the relative levels of Sentinels and FURIA. With that being said, the reliance of FURIA on one strategy and their untested level when playing from a deficit will hinder them in a best-of-five. Thus, Sentinels have the edge in this match.
Our Sentinels vs FURIA prediction: Sentinels as the match winner 3-1 @ 1.66 odds at GG.BET.
