Warrior Women of the Frozen North
A tweet featuring a 1987 magazine ad for Rumple Minze Peppermint Schnapps went viral for epitomizing the essence of 1980s advertising. However, the character depicted in the ad bears a striking resemblance to the League of Legends character Sejauni.
That sure does look like Sejauni
The ad depicts a scantily-clad muscular woman wielding a sword and shield atop a snarling polar bear. Beside the rider and mount is a large, frozen bottle of the product, Rumple Minze Peppermint Schnapps. The ad is quintessentially 80s, harkening back to a time when products were advertised by making them look as awesome as possible.
However, League of Legends fans may do a double-take when seeing the ad. The warrior woman depicted bears a striking resemblance to the in-game character Sejauni. Sejauni is an armor-clad, muscular woman depicted atop a large, ferocious boar. Her lore paints her as the warrior queen of the icy land of Freljord. However, the similarities are almost suspicious – both women are depicted with an exposed midriff and in at least one Sejauni skin, she is depicted riding a bear instead of a boar.
The primary difference is the weapon. Rumple Minze’s warrior wields a sword, while Sejauni utilizes a flail. Of course, there is no evidence to suggest that this is nothing more than a happy coincidence. However, League of Legends fans will likely find some amusement in the similarities between the two designs. However, if anyone from Riot is reading – maybe consider a Rumple Minze Schnapps skin the next time Sejuani is considered for one?
