Fredrik “REZ” Sterner has officially announced that he has left Swedish esports organization Ninjas in Pyjamas to join German team GamerLegion’s CS2 lineup.
REZ is a Swedish Counter-Strike 2 professional player now formerly affiliated with Swedish team Ninja in Pyjamas. He was the longest-standing player of the team’s current lineup and that has changed with a reported NiP roster overhaul.
Reports had been circulating that REZ would join GamerLegion to replace Timur “FL4MUS” Maryev, who had left that team to join Virtus.pro. Now these reports have been proven correct. NiP has officially announced that the REZ has left the team and GamerLegion has confirmed that REZ has signed with their side.
NiP announced to fans in a tweet on X that REZ has let the team’s CS2 roster and shared a video of the player’s journey through his tenure with the team.
On January 9, 2025, NiP’s official X account tweeted that the team was bidding a fond farewell to an NiP legend. NiP announced in the tweet that REZ is leaving but stated that he’ll always remain a ninja despite the parting of ways.
REZ also posted a heartfelt tweet on his X account. He stated that after more than seven years with the team it’s finally time to say goodbye to NiP. The CS2 player said that he has learned much during his time with the squad and that he won’t forget the time he spent there.
The star player also thanked his fans for supporting him through every high and low. He said that he couldn’t thank them enough for all the support they had given him, and that his fans’ support means everything to him.
The player informed fans that he’s excited about his future in Counter-Strike and that he is far from done, feeling hungrier and more motivated than ever before. He said he knows what he’s capable of and is ready to grind again.
REZ had been with NiP for approximately seven and a half years. He was the last remaining veteran player on the team after the previous departures of Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg and Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund.
The rifler’s most notable achievement with the team was perhaps at 2017 IEM Oakland where he was named the MVP. Some other wins of his include IEM Fall 2021 Europe, Global Esports Tour Dubai 2022, and Svenska Cupen 2022. The CS2 player has had a nice run with NiP but it looks like he thinks it’s time for him to move elsewhere.
GamerLegion has confirmed that REZ has joined the team and will be part of the 2025 CS2 roster.
On January 9, 2025, the GamerLegion X account announced that REZ had joined the team. GamerLegion stated that they’re thrilled to welcome the legend. In the tweet, GamerLegion said it’s time to secure another MVP medal for the player and that REZ is in good hands.
The NiP X account commented on the post requesting that GamerLegion take good care of REZ. GamerLegion replied, “We will.”
REZ also made a tweet informing his fans that he has officially signed with GamerLegion. The player said it’s his new home now and he’s excited and can’t wait for lays ahead.
Fans will likely see REZ in action with GamerLegion soon, as the team will play the online portion of Blast Bounty Season 1 beginning on January 14. The organization is also invited to IEM Katowice’s Stage 1 which starts on January 29. REZ will get an almost immediate chance to showcase his skills with a new team for the first time in nearly eight years.
