It looks like Carl “Rekkles” Larsson could be competing at Worlds 2024 after all thanks to a shock roster move by the defending champion.
Rekkles has had quite an interesting year. His League of Legends career took a huge turn when he decided to leave his LEC team Fnatic to join T1’s Academy team in the Challenger’s League over in South Korea. T1’s Academy team didn’t do too well in the Challengers League this past season, but Rekkles’ skill and star power has earned him a pretty exciting opportunity.
Here is how Rekkles made it to Worlds 2024.
Rekkles could be competing at the World Championship as a designated substitute player for T1.
The official pick ’em page has revealed that Rekkles will be on the T1 roster as a substitute. According to the Crystal Ball page, Rekkles will be a sub support player at Worlds 2024 if something happens to Ryu “Keria” Min-seok. This means that Rekkles likely won’t be competing at Worlds, but he will be there, prepared and waiting.
Screenshots of the pick ’em page have gone viral, with many South Korean fans wondering about Rekkles on the roster. While some were confused about Rekkles being on the team, others noted that he’s the perfect substitute. Rekkles is a versatile player who can fit into multiple roles and has experience competing at Worlds, even making it to the finals in the past.
Rekkles will technically earn a Summoner’s Cup either way if T1 wins another Worlds. T1 didn’t do as well as expected in the LCK, securing South Korea’s last seed in the qualifiers with a fourth-place finish during the 2024 summer split. The team didn’t make it to the playoffs after a loss to Hanwha Life Esports that fans did not expect.
The 2024 LCS summer split was a rough season for T1, with Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok recently revealed to be feeling a lot of pressure. A video that surfaced later on showed the unkillable demon king banging his head against a wall repeatedly after losing to Gen.G. This video caused a lot of esports fans to worry about the amount of stress and pressure impacting top players in League of Legends.
At least the team will have backup if anything goes sour. The pressure of Worlds is nothing new to Rekkles.
