Rekkles cancels scrims after ongoing drama, here’s why

Rekkles drama

Carl Martin Erik “Rekkles” Larsson canceled all his upcoming scrims after some recent drama, and fans are worried about what caused the hiatus.

Among the earliest figures in LoL esports history, Rekkles is a certified veteran of the industry. He has joined the roster of top-tier teams such as Fnatic, G2 Esports, and T1 Esports. Throughout his career,  he has been praised for his talents, skill, and humility. When T1 Esports won Worlds 2024, he emphasized that he did not play at Worlds, but was more than happy for T1 and the players who earned their victory.

His fellow T1 teammates and many Korean fans praised Rekkles for helping the team achieve their fifth Worlds victory. But as with any famous figure online, Rekkles has also attracted haters. Among the most active was Duncan “Thorin” Shields, a former broadcast commentator in the esports community. He recently dropped what he called a “content nuke” on Rekkles, sparking controversy.

Rekkles shared his extreme anxiety about the drama surrounding his career before canceling upcoming scrims.  Thorin posted a teaser for a long-form video on Rekkles, allegedly detailing his toxicity, narcissism, and “diva tendencies.”  Rekkles saw the teaser live on stream and talked about his anxiety regarding the video. He notes that Thorin has “always had it” out for him from day one.

He says he could “barely speak” during the stream and given the stress, he decided to cancel his upcoming scrims.  The video from Thorin accused Rekkles of being a toxic narcissist, going so far as to call Rekkles the “hidden villain”  of LoL esports. Rekkles has not responded to the video and stated on stream he had no plans of watching it.

Multiple pro players speak out about the Rekkles drama

Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen, Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau, and Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek shared their opinions on the Rekkles drama.  Broxah posted on Instagram about the claims that he and Rekkles dislike each other. He debunked the claims and affirmed that they had mutual respect, and always shared advice when necessary.  “A world where we would fight simply doesn’t exist,” stated Broxah in the post.

Flyquest’s Bwipo similarly had positive experiences to share about Rekkles. He also reached out personally to Rekkles and affirmed that if he needed anyone to talk to, he was there for him.  Nemesis, currently one of Rekkles’ teammates on Los Ratones, asked curious viewers why he should care about Thorin’s video. “He’s yapping a bit too much nonsense,” stated Nemesis about Thorin’s claims towards Rekkles.

Rekkles opened up about his struggles with socializing in the past

The pro player talked about his struggles with social interaction due to his then-undiagnosed autism in his teens. In April 2024, Rekkles opened up about his autism diagnosis, confessing that it made many relationships difficult for him in the past. He talks about how he can feel overwhelmed and essentially “blue screen” until he’s had some rest.

These candid talks endeared Rekkles even more to an already loyal fanbase.  Most fans hope for Rekkles to return soon, especially as the reactions to the video have mostly been negative.  The drama is a good example of how toxic the LoL esports community can get, but also of how quickly it can come together to support one of its own.
