Refer a friend
What’s better than playing Fortnite solo? Playing with your own squad of course! Especially when you can earn rewards as you do so. The friend referral has been extended a few times and recently made a comeback, so we’ll look into how it works for you. With our guide, you can quickly compete the in-game tasks for all the exclusives!
First things first: How to refer a friend in Fortnite
Let’s have an overview of the technical stuff first. In order to refer a friend in Fortnite and earn the rewards, you and your friends have to match a few criteria.
You as the referrer must:
- Register on the refer a friend in Fortnite website with your Epic account
- Log in and send out invites to up to 5 people
- Not have been a referee
- Be friends with the referee in-game
Your friend as the referee must:
- Have played less than 120 minutes of any core Fortnite Battle Royale game mode (Solos, Duos, Trios, Squads) in the last 30 days
- Not have been a referrer
- Be friends with the referrer in-game
If you and your friend match these criteria, you can complete tasks and challenges in the game to gather points and earn cool stuff like free skins, weapons, banner icons and more.
These are the challenges for the current Refer a Friend in Fortnite rewards
Most of the challenges for the refer a friend in Fortnite rewards are relatively easy to complete, with one glaring exception. But one thing after the other.
Having the majority of challenges be on the easy side makes sense, since bringing in a friend who’s new to the game or hasn’t played in a while should be an opportunity to show them the ropes and help them have fun in the game. Easy challenges make it a lot more likely that the newbie will feel a sense of accomplishment and want to keep playing. For those who do want to challenge themselves though, there’s one big task that’ll take a lot of effort and dedication.
Here’s an overview of the current refer a friend in Fortnite challenges:
- Play 1 match with your referred friend
- Make it to the top 10 with your referred friend 3 different times

Notice that last one? Yeah. That’s the one we were talking about that’ll take more time and determination than the others. If you want the reward for that challenge, it’s probably a good idea to make sure that the friend you refer is really excited about Fortnite and will play regularly.
