As the dust settles down amid the roster chaos, a new light emerges to vanquish the darkness. Too cheesy, eh? The DPC 2021-2022 season is just around the corner and we can’t be more excited to see the teams back in action.
Heading into the new DPC year, there are few names that have got me biting my nails as I look forward to seeing them perform.
ESL
The Earth Spirit God and two times TI champion returns after a one year hiatus from competitive gaming. The Finnish legend had announced his retirement albeit a temporary one post winning TI9 — his second TI championship with OG — due to lack of motivation.
To everyone’s rejoice, Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka announced his return to competitive Dota by joining Evil Geniuses. The OG will now bleed blue and look forward to establishing dominance in North America.
What’s even more exciting is Jerax playing alongside Cr1t-. Yes, you heard it right! Two of Dota’s best playmakers banding together — a recipe for success or disaster. Either way, it’ll be fun to watch the new dynamic duo weave magic.
OG Esports
Mikhail “Misha” Agatov will be spearheading OG’s new Dota 2 roster consisting of young blood. In a courageous move, OG decided to completely revamp the roster with Notail, Ceb and Topson taking a step back from competitive play.
Misha briefly worked as OG’s coach during the TI10 WEU qualifiers that saw the two time TI champions qualify to the crown jewel event. Although their journey ended on a dismal note, Misha’s inputs made significant headway contributing towards a positive atmosphere within the team.
Misha will be tasked with leading a bunch of young talented individuals and scale OG to new heights — an insurmountable task at hand but not impossible — considering Notail and Ceb will actively mentor the new team throughout its journey.
Team Secret
The King features everywhere he goes and this time it is with Team Secret. Arguably one of the best players to have ever graced the game, Sumail switches back to the mid role — a role that gained him not only fame but also earned him the TI championship ring, that too on debut.
DPC 2021/22 can shortly be summarized as Sumail’s Redemption Arc, an arc where the king is ready to roar.
A wounded lion is more dangerous than a hungry one, he runs after his prey not to satisfy his hunger but to gratify his anger.
Sumail is the Lion King and he’s eager to sit on his throne and it seems entirely plausible with Team Secret. Secret’s roster looks not only stacked and talented but also fearsome — on paper.
There’s no doubt about the spotlight shining on Sumail in the upcoming DPC year as both, Secret and himself, look to redeem themselves.
