According to numerous reports, the Cloud9 CS2 team’s roster will see a dramatic shift in its player roster, and fans are speculating that the team will now disband.
American esports organization Cloud9 was founded in 2013 and has had a presence in the Counter-Strike scene for much of the time since then. Fans still fondly remember the team’s underdog journey to an ELEAGUE Boston 2018 championship, which famously culminated in an overtime classic victory over FaZe Clan. Cloud9 re-entered the competitive Counter-Strike scene in 2022 and soon won the 2022 IEM Dallas Championship title with a new roster of players.
Cloud9 was recently in the news for releasing one of its Valorant players, Daniel “Rossy” Abedrabbo. The team is once again in the limelight now, right before the new year. This time there are reports that Cloud9 is releasing its CS2 roster and that it will disband the team. This news has shocked fans who want to know whether the rumors are true.
CS2 insiders have reported news of a massive movement of the player roster of Cloud9, claiming that the team will soon be disbanded.
On December 29, 2024, industry insider Aleksey “OverDrive” Biryukov tweeted on his official X account that Cloud9 was disbanding. That’s all OverDrive had to say about it, and he didn’t provide any further details. Regardless, the brief tweet has already shocked fans, and the news spread like wildfire. Fans quickly started questioning whether the news was true.
Soon after the first tweet, OverDrive made another tweet linking Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko with G2. Fans deduced this meant HeavyGod had either moved already or had opened negotiations with G2. In another tweet, OverDrive alleged that Cloud9 sniper Kaisar “ICY” Faiznurov is set to join Virtus Pro.
These claims aren’t yet verified, but another insider subsequently reported that two more CS2 players are leaving C9. This strengthened the idea that the team would disband. CS2 pro Vladislav “Harumi” Radvilovich tweeted that there is a 99% chance that rifler Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov and Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov are moving to BetBoom.
If these player moves do indeed happen, then the Cloud9 CS2 roster will be left almost empty. The only player remaining in the CS2 Cloud9 team if the mentioned players were to leave would be Timofei “interz” Iakushin. It’s likely that internz hasn’t yet signed with another team, but even with him still being available to the squad, it’s almost certain that Cloud9 would disband if left with only one player from its current roster.
