PGL may just have announced a huge CS Major in Singapore, but they’re not waiting until 2026 to host new tournaments, as they unveil the XMark Media Cup in Geoguessr.

Unveiled on Dec. 5 by release, the XMark Media Cup will pit the best Geoguessr players from around the globe against each other as they compete to figure out just where in the world they are. Here’s everything we know.

PGL unveils the XMark Media Cup Geoguessr Tournament

Taking place from Dec. 20 until Dec. 21, the XMark Media Cup is PGL’s first official tournament for Geoguessr. Featuring well-know esports players, streamers, and creators from across the world, they’ll compete to figure out each location using the environment: road signs, landscapes, and tiny real-world details.

The tournament will feature a double-elimination bracket, best-of-three matches, and a best-of-five Grand Finals. Each match will feature 10 rounds, increased damage after round 4, and the Move, No Move, and NMPZ modes. Alongside the main broadcast, players will stream their own POVs.

Bookmaker 1xBet will be the tournaments title sponsor, (where the X in Xmark comes from presumably), and will reportedly dedicate itself to supporting new competitive formats and helping expand the boundaries of modern esports.

Details of participants are currently unknown but are expected to be released soon.

Geoguessr is a unique browser game that drops players onto a random location across the globe, and asks them a simple question: Where are you? Using accumulated knowledge, hints in the environment, and tiny details such as flags, road signs, etc. players deduce exactly where they are. The closer to the exact location you guess on a map, the more points you receive.

XMark Media Cup may not be the first Geoguessr tournament (there have been dozens of community and independent tournaments held over the years), but it may just be the largest. Earlier this year, Geoguessr was initially announced as a title within the Esports World Cup, but withdrew after community backlash.
