MOUZ and Astralis are set to face off in the semifinals to PGL Cluj-Napoca, and this one is a very interesting content from a betting perspective.
Astralis needs no introduction to fans, but that’s not necessarily for a good reason. While the Danish squad was once defined by its on-server excellence and numerous major championships, things unraveled quickly. Not only that but the following years were defined by one controversy after another.
Things, finally, might have turned around for the team though. The new Astralis looks to have hit its stride after a shaky start in PGL Cluj-Napoca, and is now starting to knock off elite squads. It’s also just two matches away from the $400,000 top prize in the Romanian tournament.
MOUZ is a sizable 1.5 favorite against Astralis, who stands as roughly a 2.5 underdog across multiple bookmakers.
While Astralis was the more interesting story entering the event, that’s something of a compliment to MOUZ. The European team entered PGL Cluj-Napoca looking generally strong and has done so throughout. MOUZ flopped in IEM Katowice which left some skeptical of new addition Lotan “Spinx” Giladi, but PGL Cluj-Napoca has shown that the team’s roster is still a threat. Here’s the full MOUZ lineup at the event:
Meanwhile, Astralis fielded with the following lineup:
Both Astralis and MOUZ made it into the playoffs with a 3-2 group stage record, narrowly escaping elimination. MOUZ faced generally stiffer competition throughout though, with its two losses coming from fellow semifinalists FaZe Clan and Team Falcons. Astralis, however, took an awkward loss to Pain Gaming at the start of the event.
This is par for the course for cadiaN’s Astralis thus far, though. Since his controversial signing in December, Astralis has been generally inconsistent. The team has taken losses to regional squads like Sashi Esport while also beating global elites like NaVi, Eternal Fire, and more.
MOUZ and Astralis have played just one time over the last 18 months. Astralis beat MOUZ in their last match at the 2024 BLAST Premier World Final, winning the match 2-0.
MOUZ is a significant favorite against Astralis in a way that makes betting on the team fairly awkward. While that favorite status is warranted, Astralis’ chances of winning may be better than the 1.5 vs 2.5 line suggests. Astralis isn’t consistent enough to have much faith in, but it has also beaten multiple top-10-ranked squads with its current roster.
So how should this one be approached? Here are some of the best bets.
Astralis can beat MOUZ. It’s done it before, and it’s beaten teams ranked similarly to MOUZ over recent months. A 2.5 moneyline bet on Astralis feels like a reasonably good value, even if that’s not necessarily true.
As stated, Astralis is inconsistent. The day before Astralis took a 2-0 victory over The Mongolz in the PGL Cluj-Napoca playoffs, it lost an online match to the lower-ranked Heroic. It’s a roll of the dice with Astralis, but if the team can hit seven, 2.5 is a decent return.
Those who want to bet on MOUZ but want better returns than a 1.5 moneyline bet or want greater certainty in the outcome can look to map-specific bets.
MOUZ’s best maps are Dust 2 and Nuke, where it has a 3-0 and 6-2 record, respectively. That 100% winrate on Dust 2 isn’t as certain as it looks, as two of the matches came against comparatively weak competition. On the flipside, on those same maps, Astralis has a 50-50 record.
If the two sides come together on these maps, it could make for a juicier line than just 1.5 or the 1.7 found on pre-match bets on MOUZ winning map one.
