Overwatch 2 is full of unique hero picks that each have their own distinct abilities, making team composition and counter picks a very important part of the game. When selecting your own hero, it’s important to check out the enemy team’s composition to see who they’re playing, as there are plenty of heroes who can counter each pick’s kit and playing style.
From D.Va’s frustrating Defense Matrix to Soldier: 76’s strong firepower, there are always heroes who can counter even the best enemy abilities. These are the best hero counters in Overwatch 2.

DPS hero picks in Overwatch 2 are typically focused on dealing as much damage as possible, but they all do it in different ways. Some hitscan heroes want to stay mid-range and lock onto targets from advantageous positions, while others excel at flanking squishy heroes and dodging incoming attacks with their impressive mobility. It can feel overwhelming to deal with a good DPS player, but each hero has a few counters that are built to deal with their damage-dealing and take them down.
Ashe can hit hard, but she isn’t the fastest shot. Genji and Tracer can dodge her bullets. Widowmaker is an even better sniper and can often win 1v1 battles against her.
Zarya can absorb Ashe’s hefty incoming damage with her Bubble, which will only make her stronger much faster. Ana is a must for sleeping B.O.B. with her Dart.

Bastion is tough to face head-on, but heroes like Junkrat and Pharah can waylay him with damage from positions that are tough for him to deal with. Venture can find tricky ways to approach Bastion without getting caught in his barrage.
Since Bastion is slow, Ana can easily take him down with a Sleep Dart.
Genji is a classic counter since he can deflect Cassidy’s High Noon ability, flipping it around and taking down Cassidy instead.
Winston and other heroes with shields can also protect themselves from Cassidy’s strong shots while getting some damage in of their own, making her feel far less effective.

Echo can be tough for some heroes to hit since she can fly, but Soldier: 76, Cassidy, Widowmaker, and other hitscan heroes make for effective counters to her in Overwatch 2 becaues they can get some nice shots in on her with proper aim.
Anyone who can slow down Echo, like Ana or Mei, can also be tough for Echo mains to deal with.
D.Va is a great counter for Freja, able to soak up her damage while using her mobility to keep her on her toes.
Widowmaker is a smart counter since Freja excels by taking the high ground, and the sharpshooter can easily snipe her down when she does.

Genji excels in Overwatch 2 thanks to his mobility and deflection, keeping him a tough target and making counters to him feel difficult to find. But Moira and Mei don’t need precise aim to hit him, and their beam weapons will go through his deflection.
If Ana can get a good hit on him, her sleep and grenade can slow Genji way down and even stop his ultimate after it’s triggered.
Hanzo has some strong arrows in his arsenal but they aren’t hitscan, allowing mobile heroes like Genji and Lucio to avoid getting ever taking damage from him if they keep moving.
D.Va can absorb both Hanzo’s projectiles and his ultimate.

Junkrat’s attacks do tons of damage, but his rate of fire is slow and his attacks are not easily made accurate. Sombra, Kiriko, Tracer, and other fast-moving heroes can easily avoid his incoming attacks.
Zarya‘s bubble is also a huge benefit against Junkrat since she can get in the way of his attacks and then absorb the powerful explosions for her own benefit. Lifeweaver can survive Junkrat’s incoming attacks thanks to his powerful healing.
Mei’s secondary fire is strong but slow. Heroes like Tracer can easily outmaneuver Mei’s long-distance shots. Sombra can get up close and hack her, not allowing Mei to put up walls to disrupt the fight or heal herself. If you’re able to do so sneakily, you can leave Mei in a vulnerable position.
Pharah can easily get around Mei’s walls, still dealing plenty of damage, and D.Va‘s Defense Matrix can stop her ultimate.

Pharah is tough to find counters for in Overwatch 2… unless you’re a hitscan hero, who see her form floating in the air as an easy target. Think Cassidy, Ashe, and Soldier: 76.
D.Va is another potential counter because she can stop Pharah’s incoming ultimate with her Defense Matrix.
Reaper is super strong up close thanks to his high-impact shotguns, but Zarya loves to absorb all that damage with her bubble ability and turn it into a powerful beam to take him down.
Echo, Widowmaker, and other long-distance sharpshooters can keep away from Reaper’s up-close shots while getting in some big damage. Junkrat can even try to get some shots in from afar while keeping himself far-removed from Reaper’s effective range.

Sojourn can have a tough time hitting the game’s faster heroes, like Genji and Lucio.
Mauga and Roadhog are perhaps the strongest counters to Sojourn in Overwatch 2 because they can disrupt her, drawing her in when she excels at a further distance.
Roadhog is a popular counter to Soldier: 76 since he can hook him in, ruining his positioning and leaving him vulnerable.
Widowmaker and Ashe can hit Soldier: 76 from afar more easier than he can target them, giving them an advantage at the right distance.

Hanzo is a strong counter to Sombra, able to reveal her with his Sonic Arrow when she goes invisible to keep her from surprising your teammates.
Heroes that can stun Sombra are also great options, such as Ana, while Kiriko can use Suzu to remove Sombra’s hack and virus effects from her teammates.
Symmetra can be tough to deal with due to her strong beam weapon and pesky turrets. But Sombra can hack the turrets and Pharah can damage multiple turrets with her explosive area-of-effect attacks.
Mauga and Roadhog are not afraid of taking damage from turrets, making them strong counter-picks if you need someone on the front line.

Junkrat is great at taking Torbjorn’s turret down quickly and safely.
D.Va and Pharah have great mobility, allowing them to avoid Torbjorn’s ultimate and make their way over to him with few, if any, issues.
Tracer is tough to hit, so heroes that can freeze her like Mei could have some luck, especially since you don’t have to aim your primary fire to catch her out. Symmetra and Torbjorn are also great counters due to their turrets, which provide persistent damage no matter how quickly Tracer zips around.
Moira has an auto-locking weapon and orbs that can also chase Tracer down.

Venture is unique to Overwatch 2 in that they can dive underneath the ground, but there are still effective counters to this potentially elusive hero. Pharah and Widowmaker can deal with Venture from above. Other heroes can also find an advantage from the high ground.
Sigma and similar heroes with shields can effectively withstand Venture’s initial incoming attacks, while Zarya can punish Venture for borrowing.
Widowmaker excels by finding a good vantage point and firing with precision. Flanking heroes such as Genji and Sombra can disrupt Widowmaker and be very tough for her to hit. Genji can also deflect her powerful shots.
Widowmaker is actually a great counter to herself, forcing a 1v1 where the more skilled player will force the other to run away – or even switch off entirely.
Tanks are the team leaders, acting as the protectors and strategists in competitive games. With their shields and disruptive abilities, tanks lead their team into battle while soaking up incoming damage. From Reinhardt’s massive barrier to Wrecking Ball’s wild mobility, each tank has its own way to take charge. But there are heroes that are built to disrupt and counter these tanks’ plans.

The GOAT of dive comps, D.Va can take a large amount of damage and also block incoming damage entirely with her Defense Matrix. However, there are some heroes like Zarya, Winston, and Moira that have damage that can’t be absorbed by the Defense Matrix, giving them a better chance at chipping away at her health.
DPS like Sojourn and Bastion are also great choices since they are great at tracking. This can help here because D.Va has a lot of mobility, including going airborn with her boosters.
Doomfist is another mobile tank that needs fast-acting heroes to take him down. Tracer, Genji, and Sombra are great counters since these DPS can avoid his Power Block and are tough to hit with his Rocket Punch. While these heroes need to be very alert, they can start chipping away at Doomfist from a variety of angles.
Since Doomfist relies on good positioning to land his attacks, heroes like Brigitte and Wrecking Ball can disrupt his positioning to throw him off.

Hazard is best when he’s up in your face. For this reason, Overwatch 2 heroes including Widowmaker, Hanzo, and Anna can be great counters to him, hitting him from out of reach. Anna can be especially frustrating for Hazard because she can anti-heal him from a safe distance.
Reinhardt is a tank that’s able to go face-to-face with Hazard and hold his own while there. By getting in Hazard’s face, the tank is taken out of battle and can no longer guide his team properly.
Lucio and Kiriko are great support counters to this aggressive tank since they can negate her wound damage. Kiriko’s healing abilities can even negate Junker Queen’s ultimate.
Widowmaker and Hanzo are great at chipping away at Junker Queen’s health from a safe distance, as Junker Queen best excels at up-close combat.

When Mauga first arrived, he was considered pretty overpowered. Luckily, he has some pretty strong counters now that make him less oppressive for Overwatch 2 players. This includes Wrecking Ball as a great tank counter, as the hamster is able to out-maneuver him.
Kirko is a great support option since she also can outrun Mauga, while Sombra is another elusive hero that throws him off. Her hacking can also remove most of Mauga’s abilities.
Orisa is a popular tank, and one of her favorite moves is her Javelin Spin. However, heroes like Winston and Mei are not impacted by this ability because it can only block bullets and projectiles. Any hero with a beam weapon can slip past her defenses.
Zarya also has a good time with Orisa because she can absorb her damage to grow stronger, while D.Va‘s Defense Matrix can block incoming attacks.

Ramattra had a big hero kit overhaul that gave him two modes of play. DPS heroes focused on mobility, such as Genji, Tracer, and Pharah, can dodge his incoming attacks and also maneuver around him while he’s in Nemesis Form, getting around his block and damaging him.
Kiriko is a strong support option since she can damage Ramattra from afar with her Kunai, perfect for dealing with tanks that need to be up close and personal like Ramattra.
Reinhardt’s barrier is his biggest strength, protecting his team and leading their charge. Sombra can hack him to drop that shield, while Cassidy, Junkrat, and Bastion can damage his shield quickly, forcing him to reset.
Zenyatta is a popular support counter since his Discord Orb can effectively weaken Reinhardt once he’s exposed without his barrier.

Roadhog is a bit slow, but his hook and healing make him a force to be reckoned with. Tracer and Genji can easily avoid his hook while chipping away at his health. Sombra can get in close and hack him, making it impossible for him to use Take a Breather.
Junkrat and Reaper are great options as well, able to deal a massive amount of damage that Roadhog may not be able to keep up with.
No shoes, no problem. Sigma has plenty of other tricks up his sleeve, but Genji, Lucio, and other particularly fast heroes can dodge almost everything he does.
Ramattra and Roadhog are not afraid to get right up in his face, fighting him up close to avoid being blocked by his barrier.

Winston is similar to D.Va in which he loves to jump into a fight and then remove himself back out from it when things get tight. When he jumps in, Winston drops his bubble shield for protection. However, strong DPS like Bastion can track him and gun him down.
Ana and Brigitte can use their abilities to stop Winston from diving in and out of action entirely.
Wrecking Ball is all about swinging around and causing mayhem. He needs to be slowed down, either by Sombra‘s hacking or Mei‘s primary fire (especially when she has her second unlocked perk).
Roadhog could hook a Wrecking Ball, stopping him in his tracks, while Brigitte can stun him.

Zarya isn’t the fastest hero, but players need to be prepared for when she puts up her bubble, which will soak up damage and increase her own fighting power. Cassidy and Widowmaker have the precision to deal massive damage in between her bubble uses.
D.Va can consume Zarya’s Gravitation Surge with her Defense Matrix, putting a stop to her ultimate entirely.
From healing to speed boosts to platforms, support heroes in Overwatch 2 are meant to keep their teammates alive and ensure that strategies can play out as planned, and finding effective counters to them is always important. Since they’re often squishy, support heroes typically remain in the background and use their abilities to stay mobile or deal with incoming enemies. Here are the best heroes for taking down these supports, leaving their teams vulnerable.
Ana is all about focus, so fast-moving heroes like Lucio and Tracer can often avoid her Sleep Dart and other incoming attacks with ease.
Ana also has no real mobility, so she can become vulnerable if a dive hero like Winston or an aggressive tank like Doomfist rushes in after her.

Baptiste is pretty vulnerable without his Immortality Field, so a hero like Lucio is a great pick. He can boop Baptiste away from his Immortality Field and teammates.
Cassidy and other sharp-shooters can also take down Baptiste at medium rage.
Most of Brigitte’s abilities are focused on aggressively defending against up-close heroes in her space. A hero like Pharah is out of the effective range for Brigitte, not giving her any options to deal with her attacks.
Cassidy and Soldier: 76 can break down her shield from a safe range, leaving her vulnerable.

Widowmaker and Ashe can overpower Illari from afar due to their hitscan weapons, picking her off even if she’s hiding behind tanks.
Baptiste and other mobile heroes can hold their own against Illari while also healing themselves.
Juno is focused on fast movement, but heroes like D.Va can chase her down and overpower her. Lucio can also keep up with Juno, tracking him down and keeping the pressure up on the hero.
Sombra‘s hack is hugely valuable against Juno, taking away her mobility options with a well-timed hack.

Kiriko is another fast support that can be tough to keep up with. Unless you are Tracer or Genji. These DPS heroes can also avoid her headhosts with ease.
Roadhog, Mei, and Brigitte can stun Kiriko in her tracks, not allowing her to run away.
Lifeweaver relies heavily on abilities to keep his teammates safe, meaning a hack from Sombra can be devastating.
Lucio can disrupt teammates that are attempting to make use of Lifeweaver’s platform.

Lucio can be tough to hit due to his crazy mobility options. Symmetra, Moira, and Winston have auto-lock weapons that can fight off a Lucio up close. Lucio also doesn’t want to get too close to Mei, as she might freeze him.
Wrecking Ball can chase Lucio down when in the right hands.
Mercy excels at soaring in the skies, keeping such heroes as Pharah and Echo alive. But floating up in the sky makes Mercy an easy target for hitscan heroes like Widowmaker and Cassidy.
Tracer and Reaper can also make light work of a Mercy that’s been cornered inside a building, left unable to fly away.

Moira’s self-heal can’t keep up with the damage from strong DPS picks like Bastion and Junkrat.
Long-distance heroes like Widowmaker can stay away from Moira’s orbs and Biotic Grasp, landing some devastating shots with little fear.
Wuyang is all about positioning and maintaining a smart balance between healing and damage, but he can be defended against effectively. His counters must disrupt him while avoiding his defenses, like Genji flanking him or Venture racing toward him underground.
Ana doesn’t need to get up close to Wuyang to eliminate him, which is good against a hero that excels at keeping incoming heroes back.

Genji has no problem rushing down Zenyatta while avoiding his incoming attacks.
Pharah presents a bit of a tough angle for Zenyatta, able to land AoE damage before Zenyatta can strike back against her while she’s in th air. Widowmaker mains love landing headshots on Zenyatta.
As Overwatch 2 continues going strong with players and adding new heroes to the game, keeping in mind the best potential counters is as important now as ever. With these picks in mind, you can help your teammates overcome seemingly unstoppable enemy team compositions.
